Question about 1991 kawasaki ZXR 750

1 Answer

Hi I have a 1991 j1 750 but having a running problem, I had it stored for a couple of years and have now got it running again, but it won't run past 7500 rpm. it just stays there spluttering. I have changed plugs, coils, leads,(coils and leads were from a breakers) and had the carbs ultrasonic cleaned with no difference to the running. also change fuel relay as advised on another forum, I have noticed that when I rev up slowly it doesn't run smooth throught the revs. I have run out of ideas as to what it could be as before I stored it it was running fine. thanks Philip

Ultrasonic cleaning is only as good as the cleaner it's in, it might loosed the dirt, varnish or sediment but it's still there floating in the solution. Not only that if the solution has been used repeatedly then you will possibly get dirt from someone else problem deposited in yours. Ultrasonic cleaning may be a good thing but the carb still needs to be washed and rinsed in clean fluids.

Another thing did they strip the carb down to do this if not then they dislodged the partial but it's still trapped in the float chamber.

Further by not running smoothly through the rev's it sounds as if you have a fuel starve through out the range which could be improperly adjusted float heights.

I use to hate chasing these problems but solving the problem before it starts is the best way and that can be done with fuel stabilizer in the tank run the engine for a while and then run it dry of gas.

Best of luck with it

I have a 1991 GMC jimmy. Run fine until I pulled

sounds like the fuel pump is bad. check the fuel pressure with a gage is should be 35lbs. if it still won`t start now have someone try to start it while you hit the fuel tank bottom with something if it starts the pump is no good.

My explorer won't start, It was dead, I charged the battery. got a clicking noise. the battery died again, charged it and let it sit for a couple hours, went to try again, didn't even have to...

if the batter has a drain the starter may be at fault the starter can drain a battery with out running i would unhook the battery cables then charge the battery then i would have the starter tested.

Hi .....i recently bought a honda accord 1991 ex r was running fine but all sundden one day its havd problems would start up fine ........and driven for say 20 minutes then it...

These cars had two very common problems. #1 The pgmfi (main) relay has solder joints that go bad, I would repair or replace this first as they are not very expensive. It is likely your problem, if not, it will be one day so do it for maintenance if nothing else. # 2 is distributors. There are several components inside the distributor that can go bad, the easiest and cheapest solution in the long run is to just replace the whole thing with a new one (not rebuilt). Most aftermarket parts stores sell these fairly reasonably now.

Replace the relay. If that does not help, do the distributor. The ignition switches had problems as well, but they usually prevents ready for that one day as well.

the ignition control module may be going bad. call your local honda dealer with your vin # they had a recall on the control module for 91-93. they will tell you if yours was replaced already if not you can pick one up for $60 at autoparts store and it is located inside distributor

My 1991 ford f150 dies after 20 minutes and wont start again for another 20

Could be a bad coil. Sometimes when a 'bad' coil heats up it will fail to work properly. When it fails and shuts the vehicle off, this gives it time to cool back down and resume proper operation. Does it run at normal highway speed during that 20 minutes? If not then it could be a clogged fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter will let the vehicle run at idle but will starve the engine at higher rpm's.
