Question about 2002 Aprilia RS 250

I have a 2003 rs 250, i jump started the bike battery off a car because it was flat and i was unable to get to a charger. something has happened to the rev counter, the two digital gauges either side still work fine but the rev counter needle sits between the two little l.e.d's and twitches and the 'MAX' l.e.d flashes but not all the time. i have been told it may have blown the c.d.i but im not sure if thats it?? any help??

Hi, Troythickpen never jump start your bike from a car it's amperage is over the top of your bikes delicate electronics and you will inevitably fry something expensive and I am sorry you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Aprilia but despair not for a mere $10 you can download another one. Bandit's analogue instruments are driven by stepper motors, so the "stuck" needle is an indicator of the loss of electrical power to the gauge (so is the blank LCD screen). Check your wiring harness, especially the connectors under the tank (you may need to remove the tank and/or the fairing for that). A wiring diagram will come in handy and if the speedometer is working properly it may help you localize the broken wire or loose connector more efficiently. Invest in Clymer or Haynes service manual, they have wiring diagrams among other info.

How do I get the battery out the cords seem to be to short. Can I charge it well it is still attached? I can't kick start it because I have a damaged left knee. Can I try to start it well it is...

if your charger has a 'start' function on it ( it will say this in writing on the charger itself ), then you should be ok to start the bike using it. but if it is just a standard charger then do not try it -- it could damage the charger. as far as removing the battery from the bike to charge it ( wires to short ),, try and loosen the wires and remove the wires from the battery and then remove the battery and charge it. if this is not possible -- then at least try and remove the negative cable from the battery and then charge the battery in the bike. the next thing to try is to just use a cars battery to jump the bike and get it started,, once it is started - use a volt meter and test to make sure the battery is being charged by the bike. there is also a chance that the battery needs to be replaced.

sounds like the battery doesn't have enough power.
Battery may be bad, or your charging system is bad.
If the bike was sitting for a while not being ridden (longer than 3 weeks) then the battery is probably dead.
go to a local powersports shop and ask them about a "trickle charger" this is what you plug the bike into when you park the bike for a long time like the winter. You can dfind a cheap charger for about $20. It has to be a trickle charger not a regular battery charger otherwise it could overcharge and the battery could explode or even catch fire. This will keep your battery from dieing everytime you park the bike for an extended period of time.

are you sure that the battery is flat and the alarm has not gone into spleep mode this will give the impression that the batt is flat when you try to disarm the bike , turn ignition on and off to wake up alarm, press fob button twice then turn ignition on. if you do have a flat battery use a battery charger or jump start with a car . if alarm was armed before battery went flat then it will go off as soon as power is restored.

Replaced battery now there is no power to the bike

Put the battery in backwards? test light says theres power the charger will show a wide open battery this open (hollow) to be fully charged and it'll be bad and then if put in backwards the main fuse may be blown

run a voltage drop test to see if there is current being drawn from battery with key off then with key off. then start bike check if charging system is working

when i take my battery off the charger in the house hook it up & it only shows 11.5v on the lcd! is the battery fucked? at what voltage would the cdi shut down? im hoping its something as simple as a dead battery (reason for bike not starting) somebody agree with me! before i buy a new barrery, ,but a fully charged 12v auto battery is 13.2V open circuit no less. I would perform a drop test on the batt, and a S.G test with hydrometer. ,,,
