SOURCE: what do i need to remove, and how to replace a stator on a 1996 v7

The stator comes off with the right front side cover If I recall correctly. All you need is a set of metric wrenches.

Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?

If the stator needs to be replaced, get a new one. Rewinding would cost you much more. Have a different shop check the problem. Stators usually last the life of the bike.

The wires going to the voltage regulator keep burning up.

Common problem with poor quality parts, the regulator is the problem, the generator is working other wise you would not have fried the wiring, you answered your own question. someone telling porkies to get more money from unsuspecting client?
The regulator controls the voltage not the generator, the generator only supplys the voltage it cannot overcharge unless the regulator is not working properly, simple!

1994 yamaha fzr 600 new battery, won't charge

this sounds like a stator problem. try checking the wiring inside and to the battery and if that is not it you most likely need to replace the stator.

No spark

The stator has ohm readings for each coil. You can get the specs from a chiltons manual or from your Yamaha dealer if you have a friend in the service dept. Since you just did a fairly major disassembly, it is more probable that you missed a wire or ground contact that is causing your problem. Stators rarely go bad on their own, as do coils. Best wishes.
