I have a Harmon Kardon HK3490 receiver which has an input for a powered subwoofer. Next to the subwoofer output is a "link switch" which turns on the subwoofer when I turn on the stereo. What kind of wire/cable do I use to connect the link switch to the subwoofer output?

Connect the Subwoofer Trigger Output for each subwoofer to thecorresponding trigger input on its amplifier. This enables the subwoofer toturn on or off together with the HK 3490. To further conserve energy, when the trigger connection is made, turn the Subwoofer Link Switch onto turn the subwoofer off when the corresponding pair of main speakersare not being used, such as during muting, when headphones are beingused, or when the main speakers are turned off using the Speaker 1/2 switch

Best way to hook up Bose 901 series VI to a Harman Kardon HK3490

According to the HK site, "Stereo pre-amp outputs let you connect the receiver to an external power amplifier." So it's easy. Connect the Bose equalizer in the pre-out / amp in loop.

Try using the RCA outputs once and see if that works..One other thing don't use the phono input on the receiver as it could damage the amplifier

Can I connect guitar to my Harmon Kardon receiver

Sorry. They are not compatible. The headphone jack is an output but you need an input for a guitar or bass. You will certainly damage the HK if you continue. There are no compatable inputs on the HK. The inputs are meant to be used with a 300mv output device, such as a CD or DVD.

How to connect the subwoofer to my Tv Samsung???

Most of the time there is a foldback of the left and right audio inputs of the subwoofer in that they use and sum the L and R audio and then filter the high end off. That means that the audio outs from your source be it the TV audio outs or a AV receiver that they can be Y corded to the sub woofer for that purpose.

My receiver doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer output, can I still hook up a subwoofer? I have a harmon kardon avr 25

That would depend mostly on your subwoofer. There are some that slave off the front left and right speaker outputs and still pass the amp's power to the Front Speakers. That would be the only way that would ensure volume control.

Otherwise you have to feed a self-powered sub from the Tape Outs but that won't allow volume control from the H-K.

How do I disassemble + clean Harmon Kardon SoundStick subwoofer?

Check for a Fuse. Mine is an older model and has a Fuse right next to the power cord. It probably has a slot for a flathead screwdriver.

Harmon Kardon receiver not compatable connection to subwoofer.

Most subwoofers with RCA type connections are powered subs. They are commonly sold in most hi-fi stores.
Unless your subwoofer has a separate mains lead it will be the wrong type I think.

I have a relatively new (less than 3 months old) Harmon Kardon Receiver HK3490. It turns on but immediately turns off. You can hear a clicking sound like a breaker is disengaging. The problem started...

It is a relay clicking. You will need to obtain a schematic to troubleshoot this but they are available online. The protection circuits have been degraded from the short circuit but it is still alive and the discrete components are easy to replace. I used to use Sam's Fotofax but googling your HK model will get you alot of results. Harmon Kardon is a great brand and definitely worth fixing. ~Steve Medley
