Question about 2002 Suzuki VS 1400 Intruder

2 Answers

Good day. I bought my Suzuki 1400 intruder 2 months ago. It is a grey import. I am going on a long trip end of april. It is fitted(I guess) with a rev limiter. It is fine, when doing short cruises. But Being limited to 140kp/h is little, well, boring and I struggle to execute a tricky take over. Is there any way I could have the limiter removed or adjusted? All i need is that littke bit more speed. I'll be happy just to make 160(100 milesp/h)

I will attend to this a.s.a.p. Thank you. I did phone for a price on the module(I am having a light heart attack as we speak)but the agents tell me that all the modules have this limmiter. Is the grey import limmited more? Maybe I should move to the US wher they have proper bikes and parts? LOL

The reason it's lomited is that the bike handles badly at high speeds and if you need to go that fast you need to buy a bike that;s designed to do so. the intion module from an 1999 midile might let it go faster or one built for USA markey but your getting into a possible other problems and the speed might not be the only thing it might not do. Most of the ones for American markey will run 105 MPh so you might be looking for a tunup problem like a clogged air filter or fuel filter or even worn spark plugs or even the wrong ones.

Bike bandit sells OE and aftermarkey parts but you might find trading bikes to something designed to go fast might be the better option as this bike has pleaty of poer to go fast it just it behaves badly over 106 MPH

Do agree. Like I said 100 mp/h is all I need. I only drive on sundays. Thanx for pointing out the safety issue wich I never knew. Handling on high speed is more important. Maybe I should consider selling for something bigger. Thanx guys for the honesty.

Touring bikes and sport bikes all go faster as the big BMWs and othe rSuzuki models can go real fast. YUour bike should be plenty fast enough to past on two lane roads. In the USA most places going 100 MHP will get you put in Jail if they catch you.

But you guys have a 1 st world road infrastructure. I always say (in fact eveyone)that africa is no place for sissies. LOL. We can still get away with almost anything. I had taken it for a service and tune up like you suggested. The oke phoned me late yesterday to tell me someone "apperantly" tried to bypass the rev limiter. He said there is a resistor for each gear wich limits it to a certain speed for the gear selected. They removed the 4th gear resistor and replaced it with a 3rd gear resistor. That is why I get stuck on 90m/ph and not the 105m/ph like you told me. I am a qualified master tech. for Ford and it does make some sense. But do you agree with that?

I do know that many bikes are limited in the lower gears so they won't jump or break the transmission as the orginal transmission was designed for a lower houreseepower or smaller engine and they've just ( risked it) to use parts that seem to be holding up and just limit the motor to not break something. Top speed is another thing, and we have long and smooth roads here and the interstate system is like as wide and as far as you can see if it's not busy. In remote areas of Kentucky, early on Sunday morning, you can have a great big road all to yourself, and those that might stop you are sucking down coffee and a donut somewhere. This resitor mite be a chip takes a frequency choke, so what happens if you just leave it out altogether? Just be careful as the real reson to limit it may show up and try to beat you up or kill you. I don't care where you live you still break easy and at least in the USA they've got lots of dotors and police to get you back on the mend if you crash. I've been broken a few times and now that i'm older I fell it everyday.

After all this time, I discovered it was the module box. They used a cheap aftermarket module and it was pre-set and nothing you can do about it. I managed a second hand box, R3000 (about $300). I managed 120 MPH, and yes, it is very scary and I won't advise anyone to try it. Stick to the speed limit, much safer. Thank you for all the advice and I pray to one day ride those beautiful roads in the U.S of A!!!
