I have a 1984 camaro an everytime i press the brakes its real hard to press

The only trick to this is that there is a bolt in the front of the engine block just in front of where the pump goes which you can remove, then install a longer bolt to press against the pump actuator rod to keep it from falling out when you remove the pump. If you don't do this you will need to remove the rod, use some hard grease on it and try to get it to stay in place while you mount the new pump which can be a real PITA. Be sure to cean the old gasket from the mounting area and use sealer on the new gasket. Use "line wrenches" on both sides of fuel line fittings to keep from rounding them off and mop up any fuel you spill. On some cars fuel will pour from tank when you remove that fuel line, so it helps to have a short piece of hose with a stopper in one end (I use an old bolt) to plug the line while you work. DO NOT WORK WITH A/C TROUBLE LAMP AROUND FUEL AND FUMES. Use a flashlight and be careful.

Do you have power in and out of the switch when the pedal is depressed ?

Make sure the brake lights are coming on when this occurs,i think you may have a problem there based on the symptoms of the gear selector and the cruise control.

I think low battery power could cause all those symptoms. See what happens with a new, good battery.

You lost the power booster. Look at master cylinder (where you put brake fluid in) and behind it is a large, black, round module. There should be a big vac hose going into rubber bung on it. See if hose came out of bung or came off motor connecting point, or hose shot. If hose still OK and you hear loud hissing when brake on - then booster failed inside. It is large rubber plate that wears out. Either way when the hose off, or hissing when brake on, engine will run bad from loss of vacuum.

possibly a malfunction in the computer that controls the 1984 camaros carb would close the carburetor completely, cutting off the fuel supply or leaving the carburetor completely open, flooding the engine and causing it to stall or flodding the engine at shut off

is batt charged-test it--make sure cables r tite at terminals--the inline fuse on batt cable may be disconnec--keep inspectin all wiring n harness for any flaw--some fuses that appear gud can be inoperable-get a tester

Did you have gear indicateor on dash? If yes than thats probably what it was, real small?

float arm in the tank is either stuck or broken. its connected to the fuel pump assembly

rear brake lights-check brake switch. Brake light on dash, check brake fluid, may have leak or brakes are in or close to be in need of change.
