Question about 1984 Honda VF 1100 Sabre
Some bikes by design shut off the headlight while cranking the starter to conserve power. I'm not positive on your model, but Goldwings have this feature.
They do this by having 2 sets of contacts behind the starter button...so as you push in, first the headlight contacts open...then as you push further the starter circuit contacts close. Sometimes as these bikes age...the button doesn't fully release, so the starter contacts open, but the headlight contacts don't close.
With key off....spray a little WD-40 around the button and work in and and out several times, letting it snap out, then retry.
