I have a 75 flh with the passenger peg mounted to the primary inspection cover.is this stock. if not where do they mount

Yes, this is where the passenger foot peg on the left side of the bike goes. There is an arm that clamps onto the round stub on the inspection cover and is afjustable to almost any angle. The right side foot peg support bolts to the end of the transmission and also has an adfustable arm that clamps onto a stub on it. Then the pegs go on the end of the arms. Go to this site and take a look . http://www.bikebandit.com/1975-harley-davidson-flh-1200/o/m770#sch171752 I'm pretty sure they didn't move the peg brackets to the seat tubes of the frame until 1977. If your bike has two holes in a welded-on tab on the rear of the down tubes behind the primary and the transmission, you can use the later model peg brackets. But, if your bike has no holes in the frame or the swingarm for passenger peg brackets, this is the only style you can use and stay original. You could fabricate and weld on tabs to later model peg brackets or use clamp on brackets and pegs.

TROUBLE CODE CLEARING

1. Follow the diagnostic procedures to service the fault condition flashing on the air bag indicator prior to code clearing.

2. Cycle the ignition switch to OFF and then to RUN.

3. Observe air bag indicator prove-out (six ? two seconds) followed by diagnostic trouble code (52-85) flashing completely one time.

4. Locate the Diagnostic "Trouble Code Clear" Connector (grey connector). located underneath the glove compartment, left side (06010) containing Circuits 631 (T/R) and 57 (BK).

5. Use a jumper wire to short Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK) or to another good ground. This short must be made after the diagnostic trouble code flashes completely one time, but before the warning light stays on continuously.

6. Hold short until air bag diagnostic monitor tone sounds (approximately five seconds).

7. Release short on Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK). This short must be released within 25 seconds after the diagnostic monitor tone sounds.

Diagnostic trouble code is now cleared from memory. Next highest priority diagnostic trouble code stored (if one exists) will begin flashing.

Instructions
  1. Replacing the Alternator
    • 1 Remove the drain plug located under the clutch area of the primary chaincase and drain the chaincase lubricant into a catch pan. Remove all mounting bolts from the primary cover and slide the cover from its locating studs. Loosen the primary chain tensioner and inspect it for wear (this is a logical time to replace the tensioner shoe, since you are in the case).
    • 2 Lock the primary chain where it enters the bottom of the clutch drum. Remove the engine sprocket nut and slide the compensator/sprocket assembly from the engine sprocket shaft. Slide the reluctor bowl off the engine sprocket shaft. Push the stator plug through the hole into the inner primary case. Remove the stator mounting bolts and slide the stator from its support boss. Remove the stator from the case.
    • 3 Slide the new stator onto the support boss and orient it so that the stator wires are closest to the stator plug hole in the case. Install and torque the new stator bolts to factory specification (refer to manufacturer's torque sheet). Do not re-use the old bolts. The bolts come pre-treated with Loctite and are designed for one-time use. Insert the stator plug into the plug hole and snap it into place.
    • 4 Slide the reluctor bowl onto the sprocket shaft and bottom it onto the shaft shoulder. Align the splines on the shaft and the compensator/sprocket assembly and slide the assembly into position. Install the engine sprocket nut and torque to factory specification for your model of Harley. Adjust the primary chain tensioner to factory specification.
    • 5 Scrape the old primary gasket from the case. Harley Davidson gaskets are produced with a print-o-seal feature that melts and '"cooks" onto the case surface. Insure that all of the old gasket is removed from the machined surfaces. Use caution when scraping the gasket, as the cast-aluminum cases are easily gouged, leading to poor sealing and leaks. Install the fresh gasket onto the locating studs, followed by the primary chaincase cover. Torque the primary cover to the proper torque and in the recommended pattern according to the specification sheet for your model of Harley. Remove the inspection plate and add new chaincase lubricant. Replace the inspection cover gasket and re-install the inspection plate.

Need to know how to get off outer primary cover off of 1979 harley davidson


Lower the primary chain adjuster under the primary but loosening the locknut and turning the adjuster screw downwards. Take the large nut that holds the foot peg on off. Take all the bolts out around the primary. Take the round inspection cover off at the clutch and remove the spring and lock nut out. Turn the clutch adjuster screw in there clockwise until the primary cover comes off.

A lower bolt on the primary cover broke,so i removed the shifter and foot peg bracket,then removed all of the bolts from primary cover after draining primary fluid. The primary cover still doesnt seem to...


You need to remove the derby cover from the primary that goes over the clutch adjuster. Remove the sping and the locking nut. Turn the adjuster screw clockwise while gently pulling the cover off. The cover should come off then.

Well, it depends. On some open primary set-ups, you can use stock starter parts and on others you must use their starter plates and the starter they specify. Your '74 model had the Hitachi starter on it and a lot of the belt drive inner primarys and outer clutch shells are set up to use the later Nippondenso type starter. My best advice is to contact the people that made the belt drive on your bike and get their recommendations.

Can I take off the left side mid controls, and put a plain inspection cover on a 1984 fxr or do I have to cap it


Your 1984 FXR has the mid mount shifter on it. You can change over to a forward shifter and eliminate you mid mount shifter. To do this, you must pull the outer primary, the clutch and primary chain assembly and the inner primary to get the shifer shaft out of the primary. You must pull the inner primary off to get the old shift shaft out. You can put a plain inspection cover on the outer primary but you've got to close the hole in the backside of the inner primary. I use a 1/2" freeze plug that you can get at almost any auto parts house. Just measure the hole to make sure of the size you need. I'm not out in the shop or I could tell you for sure. Coat the freeze plug (welch plug) with some non-hardening PermaTex and drive it into the hole. Should you ever wish to change it back to stock, simply drive the plug out and you're back in business.

As per what Sev first said.... check all nuts and bolts. Not just the seat/sissy bar mounts, all the engine mounts, swingarm pivots, wheels, calipers, covers, bars, pegs, clamps.... everything. But most obviously the engine mounts, a loose or busted engine mount can make all sorts of odd things vibrate. While you're checking them out, make sure that any mounting plates or braces are not cracked, and that the bolts haven't stretched and are being torqued against their own threads, instead of the mounting hardware.
