Question about 2008 Yamaha YZF-R1
Had the same problem, the battery does not sit upright, therefore poles appear to be reversed, battery must be installed laying on side enabling you to connect the red wire to the positive. Dont connect battery to wrong poles this will blow the 50amp fuse and possible other damage

If the cables fit fine before you removed it and now don't, either you are putting the wrong battery back in....or you need to turn the battery around so the terminals are close to their proper cables.
Never reverse the cable connections,
