Question about Yamaha Motorcycles

1 Answer

I got a set of 1985 yamaha virago 700cc carbs to look at and clean, was having a flooding problem from one, i found nothing wrong with floats, i did find that one of the float bowls had a pluged up vent that runs from top of bowl to bottom, the one that was not pluged up fit a 1/16 drill bit, so i drilled out the other one, did i just mess up and now i need 2 float bowls?

SOURCE: carbs problem

Remove the fuel line from the carb. Turn the gas on > got flow? If not then clean the fuel line and petcock filter if it has one. Install an in-line fuel filter or replace the present one. Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Use compressed air to assist in cleaning. Is the float needle stuck closed? Be certain the vent tube and vent port are clear.

Please rate this solution. Thanks d_vickers2!

SOURCE: need setting for carb. adjuster on bottom of carb

Turn the adjusting screw all the way in until it LIGHTLY seats. Now back it out one and one half turns. Do the same adjustment for the throttle screw on the right side of the carb. You are now back to the stock factory settings.

Could you take a moment and rate my answer? Thanks!

Gas pouring out of overflow tube, gas in crank case

Definitely a carb. clean problem. Gas is more than 6 months old & has float needle stuck. Clean carbs. & always replace the float needle valve assy\'s & bowl gaskets. There is nothing you can put in the gas tank to clean carb correctly.

Sounds like you still have an issue wit the carbthat feeds the front cylinder. (A sticking float, or dirt in the needle will allow fuel to keep running)
