Question about 2005 Yamaha V-Max

1 Answer

Stalls, loss of one or more cylinders. Now in shop first $700 to clean carburators and now second $700 to replace an electrical part because of the stalling. Is this crazy?

Okay...these are general to Yamaha igniter systems...
so bike is in neutral...shows neutral, kill switch on...
Test each plug cap with a new spark plug...if one or more getting no spark....
Unhook the pickup coil harness and test the resistance (the P U coils located in left front crankcase cover with stator. If resistance tests out fine, ensure the connector is clean and connect.
Now test that both ignition coil packs primary and secondary resistances are within spec.
Verify the ignition coil packs are getting battery voltage to the primary terminal (often a red/white wire).
Ensure the igniter (the ignition black box) also called TCI is getting battery voltage on its supply.
Ensure all connectors clean to TCI.
The only other issue may be the interlocks are trying to shut down ignition....typically a black/white wire from the igniter goes to sidestand relay, tip over switch....both shut down ignition by grounding the control side of the TCI...could be they are partially grounding allowing minimal ignition.

WHY DOES TRUCK HESITATE WHEN GIVING GAS AND STALLS

Is it carburator? I had the same problem with mine 85 ford ranger. I had the carburator rebuilt but it still took the shop 3 tries before they got the adjustment right. It's either your fuel pump (most likely). Inside the carburator, there's a float that adjust to much gas is needed and that could also be the problem. The float might be defective so it stalls when you step on the gas. I suggest replacing the fuel filter as well if you gonna work on it
Other unlikely culprit could be your ignition wires/coil/spark plugs. Check to see when they were last replaced.....
good luck

Poulan PP446T Pole Saw. Will run only if choke is fully closed. Open the choke and it stalls. Have replaced the fuel filter, cleaned carb, installed carb kit. Cleaned gas lines. Good gas mixture(other saw...

It is running lean. There is an air leak somewhere allowing to much air into the cylinder or crankcase. Continuing to operate lean may cause failure. If fuel delivery lines have no pin holes or cracks probably time for some professional help (pressure tests). Remove clean and reinstall the muffler (carbon fouling can also cause this). If the saw cannot exhale, it cannot inhale. HTH

Wife was driving truck up a hill when it suddenly stalled out. she finally got the truck back down the hill. Now it will not idle properly, and stalls out if put into gear( R or 1st). Is this a carburator...

Depending on youre mechanical ability you can spend 20 bucks for a rebuild kit on your carburator.

There tends to be many different potential issues with youre description of the problem. My best advice for you at this time, would be get the carburator re-built and check youre fuel pump/fuel filter.

But you can always go to youre local shop and get a free estimate.

That is a normal thing if you have the 2.0 j20 engine. Just drive the car a few miles and the ecu will adjust the idle and fuel mixture back to normal...

Chainsaw will run for 5 min then stalls out

I would change the in tank fuel filter. Do this by draining the fuel and fishing it out with a stif piece of wire it is conected to a rubber fuel line in the tank. Also check to make shur the screws that hold the carburator to the engine are tight.
