I have a kymco bug espresso 2005 model 150cc. about to do oil change and just read the bit in manual about gear oil. Does this scooter need that too?

Hi, Sonia excellent question it all depends on how long you have owned the scooter and it's mileage, engine oil needs to be changed every 2000 km or 1250 mi. gear oil needs to be changed every 4000 km or 2500 mi.I recommend 10w40 in a synthetic "motorcycle" (not automobile) engine oil if you can find it, Amsoil and Mobil1 are the best and for the rear differential, SAE 80w90 gear lube is recommended, for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Kymco, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. On long high speed drives the final drive can get very hot. Purchase a Full Synthetic 80/90 Hypoid gear oil. Amsoil, Valvoline, etc. and change the rear end oil. The synthetic oil will run cooler in the final drive than standard gear oil. Take the oil pan with the old oil out into the sun light you will see some very, very fine particulate in suspension. But you should not see any bigger pieces, that would be a sign of trouble. If you look through the large opening (fill hole) you can see the gear meshing surface on the large gear. The polished/wearing surface should be a rectangular area in the center of the gear tooth/paddle.This would be an indication that all is well.

I need to know what kind of real end oil should i use on my 2007 yamaha vstar classic 650

For the final drive oil you can use any 80/90 Hypoid gear oil. If you choose a synthetic Hypoid gear oil your rear end will run cooler. One quart of oil is enough for 4 or 5 rear end oil changes. Because the rear ends are so expensive (around $1000), I change my rear end oil every other engine oil change.

Hi, I have a 1999 V Star 650. I cannot find any info on how to change the final gear oil. Also, I have read that your suppose to remove two drain plugs, front and rear, for an oil change, is this true?

The final gear oil is part of the crank case oil. The bike's transmission and engine are unitized. You do need to remove both drain plugs because the oil becomes compartmentalized and will not completely drain without doing it.

THE REAR SHAFT BOX IS LEAKING OUT OF THE TOP CAP

That can just happen if the conditions are right. Try changing the 80/90 hypoid gear oil in the rear end , then ride it, and just keep an eye on the rear end. It may never happen again. If you use synthetic hypoid gear oil you will have less friction and the rear end stay cooler on long rides.

What grade transmision oil should i use in the rear wheel hub for the drive shaft on my xvs1100

Any quality 80/90 hypoid gear oil will work. If you use a synthetic hypoid gear oil the rear end will have less friction, generate less heat , and last longer. Final drives are expensive and do not use much oil , maybe 1/2 cup. I recommend changing the rear end oil every other oil change.

I don't know about the Hyosung, but most motorcycles, motor oil is the tranny oil, same thing. To drain the tranny, you drain the engine. My bike has a dry clutch, so it doesn't have any gear oil. But my Harley was different, it had 90 weight in the gear box and also had a dripper on the chain that would drop motor oil on the chain every couple minutes. Most people never change the gear oil. Most cars go for life without changing it. If you had a shaft drive rear end, it would be full of gear oil, Check it out. Hope this helps.
