Question about 2005 Ducati Monster 620

It want start up and i checked the spark plug it is getting spark and it's getting fuel but it's not busten off.

Hi, Shauntarleto and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP, CKP, O2 and/or BAS).
11. Security alarm needs a reset.

Want start. Getting fuel. No fire at spark plug

These engines have a low oil sensor and if the oil is low, the engine will not have fire. So check the oil level first and make sure it is to the full mark.

Check the spark plug that it still has proper gap .028-.031 in and the proper spark plug BPR6ES (NGK) or W20EPR-U (ND). While you have the spark plug out let's see that it is firing, reattach the plug wire to the spark plug and make sure the spark plug is in contact of a bare metal surface for a ground, the crank the engine over watching for spark in the gap of the spark plug. It would be best to check this in a low light area. Keep in mind that checking for spark this way and there is spark but when the spark plug is installed and there is compression the spark may not jump the gap as it should. If no spark with the plug out check the spark plug wire for cuts or tears and it none seen get a new spark plug. If there is spark with the spark plug out reinstall the spark plug. If the engine hasn't been started for some time drain the gas out of the fuel tank and carburetor. There could be water in the fuel also but to check if there is fire get a can of starting fluid. Drain the carburetor anyway at this point because if there is water in the fuel the next step may not fire the engine because of the water. Take the air filter out and give the opening of the carburetor a short spray of starting fluid. Try to start the engine, if it doesn't start or fire with the starting fluid there is something wrong in the ignition system. The Digital CDI Ignition Coil could be bad but before buying a new one you need to check the shear key of the flywheel to the crankshaft to make sure it is in good shape. You will need to remove the flywheel for this. If the key is in very good shape, then it is the coil.

If the engine fires on the starting fluid then you have water in the fuel or the fuel is not getting into the engine as it should from the carburetor. The carburetor needs to be cleaned.

If no fuel is getting to the plugs the inyection system is not working. Check for spark in one spark plug. If you don't have spark that is the reason why the injection is not working. When there is no spark, the ECM or injection computer won't work because it needs a signal from the coil, as s proof of spark..

Timing on a 1997 daewoo nubria have done as per the manual but still wont fire. Am i missing some thing

Does it try to start and then die or just cranks over and over? If it just cranks, have you checked to see if you are getting fuel to the engine? Could be a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Pull a spark plug and crank it, if you're getting fuel then you'll get a squirt of fuel shooting out of the plug hole. Also check to see if you're getting spark. Pull one plug at a time and attach it to your coil or spark plug wire. Ground the plug while someone cranks the engine. If no spark at all from all 4 cylinders then could be a bad distribution cap/rotor. If it's distributorless ignition and no spark on all 4 then bad ECU. If it tries to start then dies check the MAF sensor as well. That should give you a few starting points. 3 things are needed for an engine to start; air, fuel and spark.

even though , you changed the spark plugs, were you getting any spark before you changed them, if you didn't check for spark, i would check out the coil, for spark, you can do this by removing 1 of the spark plug wires and ground it, then have someone to crank over the engine, to see if spark is present, if no spark, i would check the ignition control module inside the distributor.

I just replaced the water pump, timing belt, Coil packs, spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter. The car will not start even with starting fluid sprayed in the injector ports. Is the timing off, or is...

Your problem could be cause by either, both or neither. Start by checking the easiest things first. Check that the spark plug wires are connected in the proper firing order. The firing order is 1-3-4-2.


Next check that all of the plugs that were removed are firmly plugged in. Even check the ones you did not remove, just in case.

Next check that you get fuel and spark. Although it is not conclusive, if you smell fuel out of the exhaust, you are probably getting fuel. The best way is to use a fuel pressure gauge to make sure you are getting fuel at the correct pressure. Typically, base fuel pressure is in the neighborhood of 42 psi with the vacuum line disconnected from the pressure regulator. For spark, a quick test is to remove a plug, connect it to the spark plug wire, firmly ground the metal body of the spark plug, crank the engine and observe the gap for spark. This does not tell you the quality of the spark, it only tells you that there is a spark being produced but may not be hot enough to ignite the fuel. If you are not getting a spark, troubleshoot and repair before proceeding.

If all of the above have been done and it still does not start, than check that the timing marks line up.
Post up a follow up if the timing marks are lined up properly.

Turns over but wont start

first check fuel, then check to see if it is fireing at the spark plug. if it is fireing at plug, check to make sure it is getting fuel. ( should be able to smell fuel on the electrode end of spark pug). If it is getting fuel, and spark, you may try removeing all spark plugs, then shoot some oil into each spark plug hole. Replace plugs, and try to start. If it still wont try to start, may be out of time. Does it pop, backfire when you are cranking the engine?

Changed starter and alternator and still wont start on 1988 grand am

There are few things that you will have to check. 1) Is the battery properly charged. 2) Are you getting spark at the spark plugs, when you crank the car to start. 3) Is there proper fuel in the car. ---------------- If the battery is not charged properly the car will not start.Check the voltage of the battery .It should be exact 12volt. If there is no spark coming when you crank the engine then its the problem of either the spark plugs or the coil pack.the spark plugs gets power to spark from coil packs.Also check the fuel pump and fuel filter.If the fuel pump and fuel filter are worn out then it will not supply the fuel properly to the engine and this results in no-start problem. If all battery, fuel pump and spark plugs checked out OK then its time to check the wiring connections between the battery to starter and battery to alternator.This will help. Check your fuel is getting to the spark plug .If fuel is making the plug wet then one tip is to heat up the spark plug and with gloves on and acting very quickly replace plug and try to start .

The 94 grand am doesn't start

One suggestion I can make to see if your car is getting spark is by purchasing an in-line spark tester from an auto parts store (not very expensive) and pulling each spark plug wire off and checking with the tester.

If you are getting spark to every wire and they all seem to be the same brightness, try replacing your spark plugs with the recommended plugs and setting the gap with a spark plug gapper.

To see if you are getting fuel to each cylinder, try to start the car a few times with the fuel pedal to the floor (for fuel injected engines) to clear a flooded engine and then pull the spark plugs out of the engine and smell them to see if you can smell fuel, if there isn't a strong scent of fuel, you may not be getting fuel and you'd probably need to take your car to a mechanic to have them check the fuel system and injectors.

Checking for blown fuse

hey, mad legend, have u checked for spark and gas yet? If not, that's the 1st thing to do. To check for spark, u can use a spark plug u took out recently when u changed the plugs. Disconnect a plug wire at plug, plug into used plug, place where u can see tip of plug easily, have someone crank engine over, u should see a good spark at plug tip. To check to see if it's getting fuel, attempt to start several times, pull a plug and check it, tip should show signs of fuel. If it's dry, no sign of fuel, u may have a fuel pump issue.
