Okay.... at the frront of engine...look between the exhaust'll see a finned cover with bolt on end of it. Your filter is inside the cover. Remove bolt and the bolt, cover, and filter will come off as an assembly. Remove old filter from the bolt.
starting with the filter bolt with its small o ring through the cover...
place the spring on next
then the thin flat washer ******
then rotate the filter element onto the bolt working its way down to the spring (do not try PUSHING the element on as it will tend to dislodge the end seals of the element, causing filter bypass)
oil the large o ring and place in the cover groove (I use a dab or two of grease to hold in place)
install the cover /bolt assembly with the two square corners up.

**** your flat washer might be missing, as they tend to get lost in drain pans over the years...the flat washer protects the sharp end of the spring from damaging the element end seal

Keep oil off of bike while changing oil filter

On most sport bikes, well any bike, the oil filter is always right over parts of the bike that you don't want or need oil all over. I found that the box your oil filter comes in act as great to keep this from happening, open the box up so it's flat tear off the side flaps fold it in half long ways the put it under the oil filter so the oil runs down it and into your pan. always check that your o ring comes out with the old filter and double gasket will leck. oil the oil gasket to help keep it from sticking when you remove it the next change.

How many litres of oil does a 2007 Yamaha Roadliner take?? Thanks Guy

The manual says that the bike holds 5.18 US quarts WITH a filter change. I change the filter with every oil change. If you don't intend to remove the filter, make sure you know your fluid capacities.

The instruction calls for putting in half the oil - 2.6 quarts - into the bike (make sure you replace the filler cap!), starting the bike and giving it a few revs to circulate the oil. Shut off the bike and add the rest of the oil.

Steps for an oil change on this bike 1986 yamaha maxim 700

Put your bike on the center stand. Inbetween your exhaust there is a bolt on the underside. Use a 14mm with an extender piece. Put a pan underneath, and unscrew the bolt all the way.Oil will drain. Above that there is a "shell" Its got fins on it. Thats your Oil filter. Unscrew that bolt, 12mm and remove Oil filter and spring and rod. Replace o ring with one that came with new filter. make sure its seated correctly. Install new filter, putting the rod and that spring in the correct place. Once she's finished draining, refill youtr crankcase with oil. Oil capacity is around 2.7 quarts. The place to fill is directly above your footpog on the brake side.

Most of XJ bikes uses 15w40, not bad if you use valvoline 20w50 4 stroke motorcycle oil.

Where isthe oil filter on a 2003kawasaki125 kx

There is no actual oil filter on your bike. The oil gets dirty and you change it. That is the only "filter" for the oil in your bike.

Suzuki bandit sticky gearbox

Stop riding the bike until you change the gearbox oil and oil filter. Yes, the oil is probably the problem. I am somewhat surprised that the pistons haven't seized yet. On the bottom or lower side of the gear box there will be an oil drain plug. Drain the oil and put in new oil. The oil fill hole is probably on the right side cover near the rear of the casing. The plug will probably have a dip stick to measure the oil level. Put in 10w40 motor oil. Ride the bike for a few hours then drain the oil to help flush out the dirt and grit built up in the gearbox. Put in fresh oil and a new oil filter if the bike has a filter.

Your bike is 18 years old and parts can be difficult to find. Your bike probably has an oil filter. If so, it desperately needs a new one. Google " vintage suzuki motorcycle parts " . I can not find a free service manual online. You may be able to buy one at

Genral oil change

Look for the oil dip stick. Now look under underneath the area of bike where the dip stick is. You'll see a round disc with a bolt. That is the drain plug. Now you found it lets begin.
1. Warm the bike up.
2. Turn bike off.
3. Take oil dip stick out.
4. Have your oil pan under the bike
5.. Unbolt drain plug. A spring and screen will come out keep them together.
6. After oil finished draining. Make sure Screen is clean before replacing back in with the spring.
7. Start the bolt in by hand then finish with tightening with socket.
8. Put oil dip stick back in. you're ready to go!

It takes 15W 40 ( .9 liters) Don't forget to press yes if this was helpful : )
