Question about Yamaha YZ 426 F Motorcycles

I have an 02 yz 426f the bike runs real strong and no smoke but after a few short rides the oil has a hint of a gas smell

A little bit of compression is getting past the rings. Don't worry about it until the pipe is smoking. Then just install a fresh set of rings. Since you have it apart anyway, a fresh bore and new piston would not be a bad idea. Re-lap the valves for a fresh mating surface on the valves and valve seats. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

Make sure the floats are at correct height to shut off gas w/ bowls are full. remove bowels & clean out then turn on petcock move floats up do they shut off gas. oil over time will get a little gas smell.. turn off petcock off when parked;;;

My dirt bike is pushing out smoke when i hit the gas, why is it doing that??

1. Oil tank/pan overfilled.
2. Restricted oil return line to oil tank/pan.
3. Restricted breather operation.
4. Restricted oil filter.
5. Piston rings badly worn or broken.
6. Valve guides worn and or seals worn, crushed, missing, or have come of guide and are literally pumping oil through the valve guide.

Header pipe turns red hot why is carb. to lean?


Hi, Anonymous a YZ is a motocross bike designed to run flat out that being said if you are strolling down some scenic trail at a slow pace or letting the bike idle for a few minutes your header pipe will turn cherry red, why you ask? It is not a street bike, it is designed for competition and weight is a major factor all necessary components are of the smallest and lightest design necessary to maintain performance under extreme conditions ie. small radiator and inside frame oil reservoir that doesn't get cooled, the majority of your riding needs to be at high speed. Strong smell of gas when parked in garage


Check your oild level is fuel flowing into the oil flooding maybe does the bike have any running issues ?

I have a 2005 gsx600f. I just got it from a friend IT ran fine at his home but when I got it home a day later it was leaking (oil that smelled like gas) the gas knob was on so I turned it off and started...


I would definitely check the oil to see if it smells like gas. If it does the I would drain the oil and do an oil change. Check it again after the oil change and see what happens.

I have a yamaha 2002 426f that has not been used in 2 years. I drained the oil, When I replaced the oil I could not get any oil to regester I continued to add up to 3 quarts and still could not get any...


The 426 has a dry sump and an oil tank in the frame. You must check the oil level after running the bike, which will scavenge all the oil from the bottom of the engine and fill up the oil tank. Get it warm first and ride it for about 5-10 minutes. Then stop the bike and check the level. It's a pain, but that's the correct way to check the oil.

I have a problem with my yamaha yz 426f, i just get it from a mechanic after complete rebuild (new piston, bearings...everything in a machine) the compresion is very strong because engine didnt run even 5...


Bring it back .. work should be under warranty of some sort. Also if the engine is running but stalling due to fouled plug then maybe the oil injector is not adjusted properly or the oil/fuel mix is not right for some reason.

run the bike on 40:1 oil and petrol and then on the carb find the screw thats the furthest in and screw it in a 1/4 of turns at a time this will decrease the amount of fuel going into engine also replace plug and check piston rings by getting a compression tester and put it in the spark plug hole and kick it a few times the pressure wil go up and if it goes over 100 psi or 7 bar then thats ok if below say by to piston rings

1997 yamah yz 125 lots of white smoke comeing out of pipe


How much was it smoking previously? Too much smoke (oil) is a whole lot better than not enough smoke (oil). If you are mixing the oil and gas then cut back on the mixture. Obviously it is out of balance. Put 1/2 gallon of raw gas in the tank to cut the mix. After a tank or so you should get the balance back.

You need a new shift shaft and probably need a new shift lever due to the bad splines. You can try the JB Weld but I suggest that you go ahead and drill the lever an shaft then put in a cold roll split pin from the hardware store. You have nothing to loose since the shaft and the lever are already toast.

The Symptoms tell me it is a head gasket. A leaky or bad head gasket would cause all of the problems that you mentioned.

Burning water causes White Smoke, Burning Oil causes Black Smoke. The oil and water are mixing with the gas in the cylinders and causing it to run bad. Pull out the dipstick and look at the oil on it. Does it look like good oil? Or does it look watery and or foamy or grey colored. Open up the radiator and look inside, do you see oil?

This seems almost text book to me... I would have someone local to you to have a look at it to be sure.
