Question about 2004 Honda VT 750 Shadow Aero

1 Answer

My 2004 Aero 750 sat for 3 years while overseas, I drained the old laquer fuel & tanked the carb then blew it out with compressed air. It now only runs on 1/2 choke & full choke it must be revved enough to keep running, once I let off the accelerator it stalls & must be restarted on 1/2 choke...what is wrong with this?. I have worked on Indians, Harleys, Nortons, Triumph's, BSA's, NSU's..all ***'s & NEVER encountered this after tanking for 48 hours... I am ready to take the Heckler & Koch to it...mabey it will run like hell then.

Hi, Alvin if your bike has been idle for months or years and does not want to start you will have to deal with a few remedies:
1. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
2. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
3. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
4. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
5. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

I have a 2004 Honda vt750 Shadow Aero. It sat for a few months (all winter). I didn't put any fuel stabilizer in the tank, nor any seafoam. The motocycle starts rough, but when I twist the throttle it...

The carbs will need to come off and be cleaned. They are gummed up causing the stalling. The petcock will need to be replaced, it is not rebuildable

Sat for two years. will not start. not getting any gas. fires if starter fluid sprayed in air intake

Hi,
If it sat for 2 years, you can assume that the carburetors are clogged up. You will need to remove them and clean out the bowls and jets with carburetor cleaner. Make sure your tank and fuel lines are completely cleaned out too.

your carb needs to be cleaned/rebuilt,the jets are clogged from the old fuel,if the fuel that was in the tank had a really bad smell, then the fuel is bad,and what was in the tank is also inside of carb.(carb kit).
