The lever itself? is it the type with the 10mm bolt going through the lever (into a splined shaft)?
if so then either the thread's gone in the bolt/lever or the splines have gone on the shaft, otherwise it's the gear selector shaft/bearings within the box.
Hope this helps

I have a 2004 5 speed Dodge Neon and my gear shifter is loose to where I can't put it in gear

check for broken selector cable, linkage or pivot for the gear lever if direct into the top of the box
in gear selectors that are direct into the top of the box , the regular failure is the pivot pin in the turret comes loose and will not allow effective gear selection

2001 Hyundai Tiburon will not go into 5th or reverse, however it will go into gear 1 to 4

5th and reverse gears are on the same selector rail. It is possible that the selector fork has come loose for the 5th gear or reverse. Remove the gear lever turret section of the box and see if the selector rail is moving gears or the rail itself.

Gear selector and linkage that does not stay in selected gear.

have a friend move while you see what is hapening underneath. I suspect the control is loose on the box and is moving slightly when the lever is mover. Retensing the bolts may help.

Gear shift stick moves from Park to any of the other gears, but stays in Park. It's sort of loose, as if the stick shift got disengaged from whatever other components are down below.

It did, if it is calble controlled then the cable broke from either the gear selector under the dash or on the transmission . 3 places it breaks at 1 the gear selector under the dash or the center console, connection came out or broke 2. on the transmission gear selector area there is a bushing that it connects that breaks off, 3. inside the transmission, the prawl got loose (rare but happens)

94 towncar dashboard will light up fine but the gear selector will not always light up so i can also see it at night

I can think of two possibilities. 1) The gear selector needs a slight adjustment 2) the bulb for the gear selector is loose or loosing it's ground
