I would check for an intermittantly faulty kick stand switch.

Will a 1991 suzuki across start while the kickstand is down

Hi, Bayden the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled. b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.
With the engine still running:
6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the side stand down if the engine does not stall you may have a faulty side stand switch.
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the side stand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Push the start switch if the engine does not start you may have a faulty clutch switch.
This check is most reliable if performed with a warmed-up engine.

I have to cut my bike off to get it in neutral

The clutch is not releasing sufficiently. While it is applying tension on the selected gear, you will have a lot of trouble disengaging the pins that make that gear move the bike.

This can be from not being properly adjusted.

This can happen when the oil is not the right type, or needs replacing.

This can happen when the clutch is badly worn.

The clutch consists of multiple alternating layers of steel-surfaced disc with aluminum or steel discs with friction material on the sides. Half of these have ears sticking out from the disc, and half have teeth sticking in toward the center. Both the ears and the teeth can wear grooves into the parts they mate with. Once that happens, when you try to release the clutch, instead of the disc separating (oh, so slightly), they stay where they are, being stuck in the grooves they have worn. When this happens, often holding the clutch lever in long enough will cause the clutch to finally release.

The carburator prolly needs to be cleaned out. Try some carb cleaner through the gas tank first.

I just started my 2006 suzuki gsxr 600 for the first time since fall and it starts fine in neutral but as soon as i put it in gear it cuts off. The kickstand is up

Sounds like your clutch is stuck on [not disengaging when you pull the leaver]This can happen over a long storage-no use period. To fix put the bike in 3rd gear and start the engine with the clutch lever pressed[caution the bike will want to surge forward so keep your foot on the brake]Make shure to have the engine up to normal running temperature before you try this fix.the engine firing along with the brake pulled will release the sticking clutch plates. This will work!!!

Bike runs in neutral but cuts out when a gear is selected.

Your sidestand switch kills the engine if the bike is put in gear with the sidestand down. If your stand is up and this is happening either the switch is broken or out of position. If it is broken you can twist the wires together until you can replace the switch. If it is just bent out of position you can bend it back carefully.
