Question about 2005 Yamaha FJR 1300

2 Answers

Intermittent electrical failure on my UK fjr1300 2008. clock shows both indicators and high beam lights on but nothing else works sometimes this will reset immediately or a little time later. I under stood this problem to be a similar one that american owners were getting (ignition switch recall) but my local Yamaha dealer say my bike does not have the same part. I am at a loss to know what to do, the engine cuts out while i'm driving along! Any ideas?

There is a lot of talk of these exact symptoms as a result of a failure of the "ground spider" in the wiring loom. There are a number of them which reduce the number of ground wires down. Number 4 is apparently on the left of the engine area behind the coolant rail and if it's burnt out it gives these symptoms.

Contact Yamaha UK headquarters and talk with customer relations. Chances are your dealer just doesn't want to mess with it because he gets no profit for the repair from Yamaha.

Indicators, headlight, high beam, Heater showing strange behavior. Can you please suggest what could be the possible reason for it . BCM or Multi Function switch?

Hooking up an OBD2 reader will tell you right away if the BCM is shot or BCM. Take it to advanced auto or O'Riley's they will hook up a an OBD2 reader and tell you. Sounds like a faculty PCM and BCM to me or just faulty PCM since you've replaced the Body Control Module already.

Why don't my low beam lights come on? they work intermittently.

the low beam lights are switched by the stalk. power goes in the stalk and you switch it between the high beam and low beam from that. If it works intermittently it could be bad contacts in the light switch/stalk. Jon

The lights for my speedo, clock, temp gauge and fuel gauge not working, indicators, main beam, high beam, oddometer, handbrake, foglight all working ok?

You should have a fuse in the fusebox for the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster houses your gauges, speedometer, clock, and temperature gauge or light. Check the fuse to see if it blown and replace with the same size number on the fuse. Don't decrease or increase the number of the fuse. Stay with the same amp number that is on the old fuse when you replace it. Hope this helps.Good luck.

My display panel doesn't show lights. It will beep when I touch the clock, etc., but no lights. The inside oven light will come on. How can this be fixed?

This is a failure in the control board. It can be rebuilt by fixyourboard.com to save money vs. buying a new one. It is often an intermittent problem and sometimes accompanied by a random E6 F2 error when (or if) the display comes back on.
