Needs re earthing ...get a jump lead cable place it on the - connection then fit this to subframe or engine see if that works

I think the age of the bike gives a clue to what might be wrong. I'm guessing that either the rubbers on the vacuum carb slides have gone bad or the intake manifolds are old and cracked, or both. At any rate they are worth a good check. Be very careful if you have to remove the carb rack there are some delicate and expensive fuel feeder tubes between the carbs that are easily broken.

An interesting query!
AC/DC so far as the lighting wiring is concerned, there is no difference. If you are fitting a rectifier, battery and regulator, have fun!!

You are mighty bossy aren't you? A diagram will not trouble shoot your problem. Flasher doesn't work means usually a burned out lamp.
