Question about 2007 Honda VT 750 Shadow

1 Answer

I have a 2007 Honda Shadow Aero 750. When running mid-range (45-65) for 20-30 minutes or so, it will start to spit and sputter. Even when I slow down and drop a gear it will still do it. Trying to give it more fuel does not help it either. It will eventually die and when you try to crank it it will not fire up. If you wait for about 10 minutes it will fire right back up and then it will repeat itself all over again. I took it to a shop and they looked at the gas cap to see if it was venting correctly and it was. They said the lines looked good and wasnt able to find any problems. They offered to look into the carb but it was too expensive. Any ideas?

First make sure you have good plugs ...this will cause it to run terrible if the plugs are no good....
Dont guess about it...If you are not sure replace the plugs with OEM plugs (Original Equipment Manufacturer)...Dont use racing plugs unless the owners manual calls for it...Even new racing plugs will make it sputter if it isnt designed for it.....Also the wires..Make sure you have a good clean high octane fuel...Todays fuel is very weak and it isnt like it once was..Make sure it is getting plenty of fuel and the filter isnt clogged (If equipped)...The only other thing would be the carburators float adjustment or the jets are clogged or worn...The air/fuel adjustment screw will also cause this...You need to know the correct adjustment but most are .......Turn the screw all the way in and then back it out one and a half to two turns....I hope this will help...It might help to go ahead and drain the fuel
to be sure cause it could be clogging or have some water in it...I would put 93 octane in it....I would try this before taking it to the shop...I have seen this happen before and just changed the plugs and it ran great but fuel cleanliness is very important also.......Hope this helps.......Metalpoet

If the problem start after putting Vance & Hines Pipes, then try to sync the carbs, if not possible (meaning turning the sync screw all the way and cant sync them), reJet the carbs with 1up, slow and main Jet.

2006 Honda 750cc Shadow Aero starts with choke, runs for a minute, sputters and stalls. Won't start again for a couple of days, then starts right up. Electrical?

Hi there
I once had a wee car, whenever it got too much petrol inside itself it refused to go anywhere and had to rest for some time and you had to be very careful with the choke and the petrol so it did not swallow too much of it and need another rest.

My honda shadow runs fine in idel but when acelerated ax like its out of time [spits, sputers and pops]

Why don't you balance the carburetor. It seems that the mixture is not correct when you push the throttle. Had it been timing it would act rough even on idle.

2007 honda shadow aero vt750 will not stay running after the choke is pushed in

You probably have some gelled gas in the carbs. Take off the fuel line going into the carbs and spray some carb cleaner directly into the bowls. This may take care of a minor clog. If this does not work , you will have to take the carbs off and clean the slow jets and slow circuit passageways before the bike will idle normally again.
