Why is the gas getting into my oil and filling up the exhaust pipes with gas and oil...is this a head gasket problem

How do I locate a leak that lets antifreeze and oil mix inside the oil pan?


Most likely a head gasket. The coolant is forced into the oil chambers and mixes. This too leaks into the exhaust gases and burns off as you describe. You usually get oil in the coolant reservoir. This can be checked with a test strip available at automotive supply store. It measures the acidity in the coolant.

Backfires badly when downshifting or just letting off the throttle v-star 1100


Most people have this problem after changing the exhaust system. In your case you have to unbolt the exhaust system just to change the oil filter during an oil change. There is an oil filter relocation kit available for around $400 that allows you to both use a spin on filter and not have to unbolt the exhaust system every time you change the oil. The cause of your problem is air leaking past the exhaust o-rings in the head. Buy new exhaust o-ring gaskets for the head and your problem should be solved. If there is a sealing pipe gasket going from the head pipe to the muffler you may have to replace that too. The cause of your problem was probably an oil change where the mechanic replaced the oil filter but did not bother to replace the exhaust o-ring gaskets. Happy riding.

When i checked oil it looked milky


water or coolant is getting in oil. could be a bad head gasket. If the coolant level continues to drop, but there are no signs of coolant leaks on the ground or from the exhaust pipe, there is a good chance that coolant is entering crankcase and mixing in with the oil. check head gasket and manifold gasket for leaks.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:

  3. NOTE: Lubricate the cylinder head bolts with clean engine oil for assembly.
  4. Install the cylinder head with a new gasket. Tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
  5. Step 1: 58 ft. lbs. (75 Nm)
  6. Step 2: 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm)

    If you need to top up the radiator constantly, you have a water leak some where.
    You could be losing cooling fluid via a faulty head gasket. Check your exhaust pipe after the engine has warmed up and after driving for a few Kms see if there is water vapour coming from the exhaust pipe.
    OR
    Water could be leaking into the oil sump pan via a faulty head gasket. Check the oil dip stick, if the oil is milky then water is leaking into the sump.

    Only if the air filter has become oil fouled . More than likely this would keep the bike from running too. If you have too much oil be sure to do the sniff test (on the oil fill hole) just in case a carburetor float stuck and filled the engine with gas. This might also cause poor running. If you have oil in your gas be sure to change the oil , check the air filter, and always turn off the gas when you are not riding. If everything is normal , then you probably need to change the exhaust o-rings in the head and the exhaust seal from the head pipe to muffler. By sealing the exhaust system you should eliminate the popping and backfiring from deceleration.

    How do I replace the oil pan gasket on a 2001 GMC Yukon XL?


    Changing the oil pan gasket on a GMC Yukon XL is realtively simple, but does require removal of the exhaust pipe. You will need a new oil pan gasket and a new exhaust pipe flange gasket.
    Put the car on ramps or jacks to access the undercarriage.
    Remove the exhaust pipe by removing the 3 nuts holding the exhaust pipe flange to the exhaust manifold. These nuts often rust and prior application of penetrating oil may be required to remove them without damage. Once the pipe is unbolted, work the exhaust system loose from the hanging brackets. In most cases the entire system does not have to be removed since there is enough room to remove the pan with only the front hangers removed.
    Drain the oil from the engine
    Remove the 10 mm bolts holding the pan to the block.
    Remove the old gasket material and scrape any remaining gasket from the block and pan.
    Install the new gasket. Forma-Gasket or a similar product may be used in small quantities to "glue" the new gasket in place and prevent shifting while the pan is reattached to the block.
    Reinsall the 10 mm bolts in a cross pattern to ensure the gasket is compressed evenly. Do not overtighten the bolts.
    Replace the pipe to flange gasket between the exhaust pipe and the exhaust manifold with a new part.
    Reattach the exhuast pipe to the hangers.
    Install the 3 bolts connecting the pipe flange to the exhaust manifold.
    Fill the engine with oil.

    Oil keeps getting in to the water


    if thats the case you should have water in the oil also, that means you have a blown head gasket

    Oil leak by exhaust pipe


    I am not personally familiar with a 1975 DT250, but here is a general overview. If the bike is a 4 stroke, the oil you observed could have been from the exhaust, however it is more likely that it is from a leaky valve cover gasket or a head gasket. If the bike is a 2 stroke, the "oil" is from the exhaust (expansion chamber). It is excess 2 stroke oil that accumulates. You should reduce the mix to 32:1 or even 40:1 and replace the oring gasket in the opening of the pipe. If in a pinch you can use high temp silicone, but not a good way to go.
