First try cleaning the carbs, new spark plugs and adjust valve clearances, new oil and clean air filter, before any screw adjustments, which will need some vacumn gauges attached to set the carb sync

On my pipes one side is hot and the other is cold

Check the pipe right where they come out of the heads. It depends on what type of exhaust system you have on your Road King. If the stock exhaust is on the bike, the rear cylinder exhaust is directed to both mufflers. With the exhaust from the front and part of the exhaust from the rear cylinders going to the right side muffler, it gets more exhaust than the left side and runs hotter. Like I said, check the temp of the exhaust pipes at the cylinder heads. If one of them is cold, that cylinder is not firing. As long as both of the pipes are hot there, you're fine. Just ride the bike and have fun.

Ride Safe.

I just rebuilt the carbs on my 1982 goldwing interstate and now it is blowing white smoke out of the right side exhaust

Hi, P_cameron001 your instrument gauges and lights can alert you to most electrical and engine issues they can not warn you about failed engine gaskets or seals so your engine has to resort to old fashion alert methods of colored "SMOKE SIGNALS" here is a breakdown of their meaning:
1. COLORLESS OR SLIGHTLY BLUE SMOKE on start-up means your air/fuel mixture is at the right composition and everything is well burnt in your combustion chamber.
2. BLUE SMOKE on start-up is usually caused by failed valve seals dripping oil into the combustion chamber when the engine is not running.
3. YELLOW OR BROWNISH SMOKE at start-up means your air/fuel mixture is too lean. Too lean means that there is low fuel but high air mixture in your combustion chamber.
4. WHITE SMOKE on start-up may be caused by a blown head gasket allowing coolant to enter the combustion chamber and may start dripping out of the exhaust pipes or mufflers. Smoke while riding is usually caused by worn out or damaged valves, seals, guides, pistons, rings, or cylinder walls.
5. BLACK SMOKE on start-up is usually caused by too much fuel in the combustion chamber this can be due to air/fuel mixture adjustment too rich, accelerator pump improperly adjusted, faulty choke/enrichner or not in the off position, air filter dirty and clogged, faulty carburetor float needle and seat, pilot jet too large, fuel injectors leaking, smoke while riding is usually caused by the main jet being too large or a damaged carburetor.
It should be noted that aggressive or abnormal throttle operation will cause these conditions to manifest themselves exponentially.

Trottle side exhaust of bike is hot but the left side exhaust is warm at best. Good air flow on both sides. The four cylinders and heads seem to be heated up the same amount. The motor is working fine, I...

You are obviously not getting good combustion on that cylinder that is only warm. You are not running 100% on all 4. That WILL cause issues in the future because it upsets the balance. The bike is not firing evenly. Is this thing new?

Starter 1983 goldwing

When sitting on bike, starter is directly under driver, left side of bike at bottom, just above exhaust pipe behind shifter mechanism. You have to remove shift lever to remove it, attaches with 3 bolts. I have repair manual available on cd. Easy project, have replaced 3 myself so far. Motor does not have to be removed.
