Question about kawasaki EL 250 Eliminator Motorcycles

I have a problem with the carburetor, overflowing because I let the pressure of air from the compressor in the fuel supply hose to the carburetor, since then we overflowing, what do I do? that part could fail?

    thank you very much for this solution it was helpful,i'v take down the carburateur and clean up and this is it,petrol was very bad in tank and this is was the problem when i applied the pressure into carburateur and damaged the filter and and therefore the pressure I crammed the dirt inside the carburetor

You have probably damaged the float valve, it is very delicate, depending on how much pressure you applied, depends on how much damage, the float valve is a small pin with a point at one end, when the carb fills, a float pushes up on this pin, and the point of this pin blocks the flow of incoming petrol.
Remove the carb, remove the the screws holding the bottom of the carb and remove it
Inside the bottom of the carb is the float, it will be made of brass or plastic, it is delicate and very easy to bend, be careful, the float hinges on a pin that can be slid sideways to remove it, look at this closely, near the centre of this pin there should be a metal tab that pushes onto the float valve pin, sometimes the valve pin is held in a slot in the tab.
Slide out the float hinge pin, and gently lift the float upwards, check that the float is not punctured by shaking it gently by your ear to make sure there is no fuel inside.
Now you should be able to see the valve pin sitting in its hole, lift out the pin and examine closely at the sides of the point, any wear, and it will not be able to stop petrol and will overflow, also, even the smallest speck of dirt will cause this valve to fail, and the carb to overflow, all must be spotless.
the valve pin is not repairable, if it is worn or scratched, it must be replaced, on old bikes the pin point was made of metat, on newer bikes the point is made of a black rubber to give a better seal, both are very easy to damage, good luck, H

They ARE backwards. You have two ******* on one side of the fuel pump and one on the other. Disconnect the fuel supply. The air hose is the breather hose from the valve chamber. The fuel pump works on pressure and vacuum. The single nipple is from the pump to the carb. The other two? Sherlock Holmes it and look at hose lengths.

Carburetor leaks fuel in the combustion chamber and out through the area of the throttle plate into the air filter.This happened after I had to replace the fuel lines .

This is not as easy as it appears!
The image below is the proper routing for the fuel lines from the tank through the primer and carburetor.

It is so easy to assemble this backwards and pump unfiltered fuel through the carburetor. Or Assemble it so that the primer pushes fuel into the carburetor.

The primer pulls the fuel through the filter located in the tank up the inlet hose into the carburetor internal fuel pump filling up the carburetor and purging out any air. The output of the primer returns any excess fuel back into the tank via the return hose.

26117870-p2kvwqjbo3oi50ps2xua1eg1-2-2.png If it is correct you need to perform a leak check on the fuel system. Reach into the tank and retrieve the fuel filter attached to the hose. Carefully remove the filter from the hose and with your finger over the end of the hose pump the primer. You should hold a vacuum. If the primer will not stay down air is leaking into the fuel system. Any air will disable the engine from running. The carburetor needs to be air free to function.

If air is not leaking from a hose connection and is internal to the carburetor it is likely that contamination has logged either in the needle valve or check valve.
Below is the check valve that prevents air from entering the fuel passages from the fuel jets when you prime/purge the carburetor with the primer bulb.

If the carburetor is filling with fuel when you prime it is likely that the the primer is pushing (incorrect hose routing) the fuel into the carburetor through the impulse pump and through this check valve. Correct pluming and try again.

The needle valve is located under the four screws under the diaphragm and is actuated by the diaphragm.

Cleaning the check valve is almost impossible. Most have a rubber washer that can easily be moved out of place from the use of excessive air pressure. The claim is that the check valve can be replaced. I've never been successful and ended up replacing the carburetor. Messing with the needle and diaphragm has not always resulted Joy either. You can leak check the needle valve by plugging the inlet hose and pull the fuel out the primer bulb connection using the primer bulb. Cleaning the carburetor with the small holes and blind fuel passages can create a problem by plugging the tiny fuel feed holes you are trying to clean.. In the newer machine the adjustment screws are not removable preventing the cleaning of the needle clearances. This is a bumpy road well traveled by many!!

2 fuel lines broke (1 from tank 1 from primer bulb). Line from back of tank to back of carb still there. Which lines go where?

Do not mix them up!! Doing so will bring debris into carburetor. Assuming the line from back of tank to carburetor is the fuel feed line then you should also plan to replace it if the other lines have failed..

The primer bulb sucks (pulls) the air fuel through the carburetor thus venting out any air. The process draws the fuel through the in tank filter through the impulse fuel pump. The fuel connects via an internal carburetor passage from the pump to the needle valve and during the prime passes the needle valve into the pressure diaphragm chamber. From there the fuel is drawn(sucked) into the inlet side of the purge/prime valve and returns the air fuel into the tank.

The center hose on the primer is the return into the fuel tank. The hose from the center of the primer bulb goes directly to the fuel tank and is the return. The outer diameter hose connection to the primer is the connection made to the carburetor. By closing off the end of the hose you can test with your finger the function of each hose. You do not want to pass fuel into the carburetor by reversing the primer hoses.

Remove the carburetor on a 2005 harley davidson 883 sportster



Turn the fuel supply valve to OFF and then remove the air cleaner and backplate, cut the clamp and disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel inlet fitting, detach the enrichener knob assembly from its bracket between the cylinder heads, disconnect the throttle cables from the carburetor, disconnect the fuel overflow/drain hose from the fuel overflow fitting, remove the enrichener cable assembly, enrichener valve and spring. (on California models only, disconnect the canister purge hose from the fitting on the carburetor body), remove the fuel tank and pull the carburetor free of the intake manifold. If removing the intake manifold, remove the four manifold mounting screws, remove the intake manifold, the seal ring, the mounting flanges and the two intake manifold seals. If removing the MAP sensor remove its screw, the MAP sensor clip and the MAP sensor itself.

No. Wrongly adjusted float height makes the engine fail to run.
If you get over flow leak (from the overflow hose) your fuel needle inside the carburetor simply does not close the gas supply hole firmly even if the floaters still pressing it against that hole.
That is because the over flow holes on a carburetor are so far above the floaters that even with the float height wrongly adjusted, the fuel needle should stop the gas from overflowing and simply made your fuel mixture too rich.

Hi, Divecop3 these tubes and hoses are for venting and must remain clear of obstruction and connection at one end otherwise the usual suspects are:
1. Idle circuit and transfer ports clogged.
2. Air fuel mixture adjustment too lean.
3. Pilot jet clogged.
4. Faulty accelerator pump.
5. Float level too low.
6. Float bowl contaminated old fuel, water, dirt, rust, etc.
7. Float bowl vent or overflow tube clogged.
8. Fuel flow to carburetor restricted.
9. Intake manifold leak.
10. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
11. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
12. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.
13. Multi carburetors not in sync.

Hello, we have a polaris (2006) 500 sportsman ho..while riding today, unit stopped. looked at rubber fuel line that has an opening (or valve?) that had fuel coming this a broken valve?? RJ

If it is a rubber hose coming from the bottom of the carburetor it is the overflow. If that's the case the needle & seat in the carburetor is bad or has something blocking it from closing. This will allow too much fuel into the carburetor and flood the atv as well as leak out of the overflow. If it is the main fuel supply line from the tank, it will go into a fuel valve located on the left side of the machine (on, reserve, and off). If it is leaking from that hose it can be fixed with a new hose. Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions, Daniel.

This is usually a carburetor problem. The float needle is not seating, or worn badly. It possibly just needs cleaning. Also, what would help is to put a shutoff valve in the fuel supply line if possible. That will keep fuel from weeping in the carburetor and getting into the engine.

How do the hoses go on my carb 1975 suzuki rm 125

How many hoses do you have? On most bikes you have a larger hose, for fuel, and two smaller hoses for carb overflow. You can take off the bowl from the carb and turn on the gas (outside the garage).........and if gas flows out you have the fuel hose on correctly. The smaller overflow hoses are not that important. They are just there to take any fuel overflow away from the carburetor.
