Did you clean and test the thermostat.

Are all the lines clear of debris that can impede the water flow?

Are you using recommended coolant level in your suystem?

Is the radiator clean inside and around the fins (did you flush your system)?

Cheers, do not forget to mark this suggestion.

Tractor temp gage show extremely hot, fluid in radiator shows thatb it is normal. I have replaced sending unit but still happens. What is wrong?

Sounds like the gauge is doing its job..Cool water in the rad and hot water in the engine means no circulation due to a bad water pump, clogged hoses, bad thermostat or all the above...start with the thermostat if it has one...most likely a water pump if not..good luck..

did you bleed the cooling system when you replaced the thermostat, is the coolant in the correct ratio of inhibitor/water, open up the bottom hose and flush out the sytem and start again.

I have a 1980 Honda CX 500 Custom and the Temperature gauge shows hot if I run the bike above 6000 rpm for any length of time. If I run a bit slower it seems to hold its own. What temp should the coolant...

Honda temperature gauges tend to run high before the electric fans kick in. They also tend to read differently on different bikes of the same model (fuel gauge, temp gauge , speedometer, etc.)Your fan is driven attached directly to your cam so it spins constantly. If your machine is not actually overheating or boiling over and has plenty of anti freeze, I would just keep an eye on it and not worry about it. If your engine gets really hot it will tend to leak anti freeze down the left rear cover past the water pump seal. This is normal and should be of little concern unless the water pump develops a steady drip. Then the water pump seal is bad and will need to be replaced.

i own an 87 CBR myself and have never had the neutral light problem but the switch is located just in front countershaft sprocket and aft of the water pump area it'll have a small rubber boot on it and the manual says disconnect connector and then unscrew the switch, seems simple. Switch could be going bad. My bike normally runs about 1/2 to 3/4 on temp range and when it gets almost up to the double hash marks then the fans comes on. Usually the fan only comes on when its summer time and real hot out and in stop and go traffic. This is one of the reasons that California lets us lane split so that bike engine will be kept cooler with a constant flow of air over the motor. As far as the water pump goes you can check it for binding, but you'll have to take off the small drain bolt off the cover, then take of fuel tank take off and Radiator cap. Now take off the three main bolt that hold the cover down and pull off make sure gasket is in good condition now you should be able to spin the impeller blades and there shouldnt be any binding if there is you have to replace the pump. Now one more thing, the pumps shaft links directly to your oil pump drive shaft.. this is how the waterpump shaft moves.. by a drive chain turning the oil pump sproket inside the motor, so you might have to be in neutral to check it. if that doesnt work then just real quickly hit the start button while in nuetral and with stop/kill switch to off position so you can crank it to listen for that noise. also look at the inside of the water pump cover for scratch marks if you see any that means the blades probably got bent and might be rubbing on the cover. you can bend them back to proper position if you need clearance. Can i get a very helpful one this one..Thanks!
