Check the bulb first. There are two filaments in the bulb, one for the brake light and one for the tail light. If the bulb is good, there are two switches that turn the brake light on. One is on the front brake lever and the other is a pressure switch in the metal brake line from the rear master cylinder. Work with the rear brake light switch first.

Find and follow the metal brake line coming from the rear brake master cylinder running back towards the rear brake. Underneath the bike's transmission, you'll find a tee fitting with a pressure switch in it. With the ignition switch turned on, one of the wires that are plugged onto the switch should have battery voltage on it. When you depress the rear brake pedal, both wires should have voltage on them. If not, replace the switch.

Once you get the rear brake light switch working, if the front brake light switch does not work, it must be replaced. To replace that switch, remove the two bolts that hold the right handlebar switch housing halves together. Loosen the throttle cable and idle cable adjustments. Lift the top switch housing half and remove the throttle sleeve. The front brake light switch is the small switch right in the front of the housing half. You must desolder the wires, replace the switch with a new one, and resolder the original wires to the new switch. Reassemble the throttle sleeve and switch housing halves. Adjust the throttle cable and idle cable. Check throttle for proper operation.

Good Luck
Steve

1986 gmc c2500 tail light wont work replaced fuse and light bulbs still dont work ? I do have break light but when I turn on light the break lights wont work

you have either the wrong bulb or the bulb installed backwards.
the reason the bulb is not working right, is because the driving light is lighting brighter than the brake that's why it looks like is not working.

Dash light and rear break light and running light wont work

About the only thing that affects all three circuits is the multi-function switch on the column.
You would probably need to take a meter or test light and check the circuits there for voltage.

Break lights wont work changed the break booster and switch still no break lights

Your turn signal switch may be the problem. The brake light circuit runs through the turn signal switch. Do the basics and check for a blown fuse, broken light bulb or bulb holder.

My rear break lights wont work when my truck is running, but when the truck is off they work fine. The bulbs and break light switch are good still. How do I fix them?

check the grounds. there might be a loose ground that is just barely contacting and when the truck is running it vibrates enough to shake it loose.

The brake lights wont work. The brake light over

the break light wire on the lumina runs through the blinker switch or multifunction switch on the colum.. check there as well as at the tail light sockets. on the late 90s gm cars the sockets had a tendancy to rot away... use a test light at the brake light wire in the trunk and have a friend apply the break. if there is power then may have to get new tail lights. or replacement bulbs.
