Question about 2006 Victory Vegas

1 Answer

06 Kingpin R. turn signal quit when I crashed last summer. Speedo did too. Dropped on left side pretty hard, 50 mph. I tried a different switch, checked alot of the wiring. The switch has juice on one of the side posts, none on the center post. When I touch the other side post with my test light the L. turn signal comes on. Then when I touch the first side post it shuts off again. Any ideas? Thank you!

Thank you for the advice. I'm not sure what the T. S. module is. Is it the part in the handlebar assembly?

I bought a whole handlebar unit with the T. S. switch and horn button in it from e-bay. It looks like new. It worked exactly like the unit on my bike, everything works except the R. turn signal.

I tested the wiring (blue with a red stripe) all the way to the unit I guessed is the computer under the seat. No juice even at the switch. I suppose this used unit could have the same problem. The switch looks to be safe from damage from a shock like crashing. Do you know if there is an internal weak spot in the switches causing this problem?

I've always done the wiring myself on all the old Harleys I've built but they didn't have computers so my experience is of no use on this "modern" bike.

I sold my restored 64 police panhead and restored 48 pan and my sons Triumph to buy Victorys for me and my son. I wanted a newer American bike, not a bike made up of mostly imported parts, like Harleys now are. We are both very happy with our Victorys.

I've had 3 brain surgeries and havent been able to work since my crash, so I can't afford to take it to the dealer. Besides I've always done all the work on my bikes myself.

    Thank you for your time.

Hello,It sounds like the switch is functioning how it is suppose to per your description. Let me ask you, did replace the entire turn signal module? This should come with new wires and replace it all the way to the connector. Should have a clip connector as well. Sounds to me like somewhere between the switch and the blinker bulb there is failure in one or more of the wires in that path. I would clean the connector and pins real well and if this does not fix it then buy the entire blinker module assembly and install it. I bet this takes care of your issue.
Regards, Tony

The TS Module (turn signal module) is basically the relay that is responsible for the blinker light actually blinking after you turn the blinker switch on. So you hit your blinker switch and the relay says start blinking light. This should be under the seat. Follow the blink wires right up to it and then you can inspect it. Did you physically inspect and or replace that relay? This could be your problem all along. Be a little plastic box looking thing. Sometimes you can take them apart and use a little sand paper to clean the contacts with fine sand paper. There are usually three sets of wires that run. A ground, a blink and the running light. Here are the steps to diagnosing the actual wires on the blinker assembly. The way I would diagnose the wires is to take and hold the positive red lead from the turn signal to the positive red lead of the battery. Then you want to place the negative black lead from the turn signal to the negative black lead of the battery. You want to do one side at a time and amake sure both sides are lighting up. If they all light up then the switch or relay is at fault. As long as the blinkers are getting power then you know either the relay or the switch is malfunctioning. Thats all it can be. You have a new switch but that is not a guarantee from malfunction but one would hope it is good. The last thing is that relay. when you pull that relay test the wire leads running to it as well. Check for any corrosion etc as well. Specifically leading to the malfunctioning blinker. Let me know how things work out.

My immobiliser wont let me start the bike

This may help you ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTy_JKI9cQ0 ... probably not.

Resetting your security system depends on which system you have. To do any of them, you must have the fob. If you don't have the fob, only Harley can clear. Be prepared to prove ownership when you arrive.

To reset the code with a TSSM equipped bike, you will:
1) Set your kill switch to off
2) Quickly turn the ignition switch on, off, on, off, on
3) Immediately press and let go of the left turn signal switch twice (press, let go, press, let go)
4) Press and let go of your fob button twice (press fairly hard, it's designed to resist being pressed by keys and what not in your pocket)
5) Current PIN number will be displayed on odometer
6) Change the PIN by pressing the left signal until the desired number is reached
7) Press the fob button twice to cycle to the next number and repeat step 7
8) Press and let go the right signal and turn ignition off when 5 digit PIN is satisfactory
NOTE: Steps 2 through 4 must be completed in quick succession of each other.

Now you can have the bike armed, and disarm with the PIN (example PIN will be 25522 in the following steps):
1) Ignition switch to Accessories
2) Immediately press both turn signals at the same time (red key light on you speedometer will flash rapidly if done right)
3) Press and let go the left signal 2 times
4) Press and let go the right signal once
5) Press and let go the left signal 5 times
6) Press and let go the right signal once
7) Repeat for each of the last three numbers of the PIN (left 5 times, right once, left 2 times, right once, left 2 times, right once)
8) Red key on speedo will stop blinking if done right (security has been disarmed)
NOTE: Steps 2 through 7 must be completed in quick succession of each other.

To reset the code with a HFSM equipped bike, you will:
1) Have your key fob near the bike
2) Set your kill switch to off
3) Quickly turn the ignition switch on, off, on, off, on
4) Immediately press and let go of the left turn signal switch twice (press, let go, press, let go)
5) Press and let go the right signal once
6) Current PIN number will be displayed on odometer
7) Change the PIN by pressing the left signal until the desired number is reached
8) Press the right signal to cycle to the next number and repeat step 7
9) Turn ignition off when 5 digit PIN is satisfactory
NOTE: Steps 3 through 5 must be completed in quick succession of each other.

Now you can have the bike armed, and disarm with the PIN (example PIN will be 25522 in the following steps):
1) Ignition switch to on

How to fix a speedometer cable

Well you know it does not have a speedo cable since you replaced the speed sensor in the transmission.
My guess would be a problem with the speedo or cluster.

Speedometer is at 50 MPH when stopped

Try this. Turn the key on, do not start the vehicle. Absence the needle on the speedo. It should move down and then back up. Before it moves back up turn off the key. Repeat this until the needle is at zero. Then start the vehicle. If the needle goes back to a spot other than zero, you may have to take it for a quick drive, than the speedo head is likely bad. This is a pretty common an known issue for gm's. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Cold air blows from the left side. Heat will not come from the left side of vents. Right side works fine. It did this last winter, but suddenly stated working. No problem with A/C. during summer.

sounds like a bad switch. like the switch to change to defrost or on your feet ect. they should be pretty cheap if you look at a junk yard or ebay

Speedometer on 1999 maxima wrong, faster you go the farther off. approx. 20 mph faster at 60 mph. replaced vss.

do you have aftermarket wheel on the car?? bigger wheels can cause speed signal failure resulting in speedo acting up. different size tires will have different circumference causing speedo issues.
