Question about Yamaha FZ 750 AE (U.S Motorcycles

I have a 1982 seca 750 ,Ive gone through the carbs 3 times making sure everything is perfect synchronized carbs the gauge reads late valve timing but it's right on Idel is slow to return when reved and bp7es plugs show sooty rich condition. what am I doing wrong? thanks scott

The float level measure must be rite or ur run to rich-with soot--ask a dealer tech for the value or get a clymer manual--this book has all maintenance and rebuild details

Mine was stored for 20 years, I ended up replacing the seat and needles, cleaning them thoroughly and when I tried starting it, nothing!! No gas was going to the carbs, it turned out to be my gas pump, it was seized by the old gas remains 'varnish' so I had to clean it numerous times, soaked it in gas cleaner (short period at a time 15 minutes or so, being a very powerful cleaner, you cannot leave it for long without causing greater problems, thus I was able to get the pump going by boosting it with my car batterie, having more cranking amps directly to the pump, the pump was able to release itself from the old crusty varnish.

Not running on #3 cyl' on my 1982 gs550

Not likely valve timing if it will run, cams are one piece so if one is right all are right. Have you checked compression with a gauge, or just by feel? Try swapping the sparkplug wire with the #1 cylinder and see if the dead cylinder moves with the wire. Also try moving the spark plug to another cylinder and see if the dead cylinder moves with it. If the compression is indeed good, the problem will be with the spark plug/ wire, or in the carb, these are the only things that can kill a single cylinder. The coils run a pair of cylinders so a bad coil would put out 2 cylinders at the same time. Start with the spark plug, I have seen a perfectly good looking plug, that would fire whun held to the head, but would not fire in the cylinder.

I have a simular problem to (By ithacaautomo on Jun 28, 2009) with my 1982 Suzuki GS750e. Except the bike runs worse as it warms up. I've cleaned the carburators and they didn't look bad to start with....

See which plugs are running good (cream to light brown) color look at the other carbs. make sure you have no cracked rubber or flat o- rings or other vacuum leaks. You will need vacuum syncronizer or a set of good vacuum gauges to balance the carbs properly. If there is a filter it will be between the tank and the carbs. you might want to pull the valve and screen out of the gas tank, and make sure everything is clean and in good shape.

Not sure why my bike wont start

How long did the bike set un-used? After years, gasoline turns into varnish after evaporation of the aromatic hydrocarbons. I've actually seen a substance like molasses in all the carbs and the gas tank. Take a bowl off of a carb and see what you find. If it has gone to varnish, you will need to disassemble every component that gasoline touches as a liquid and re-build and clean out the gunk. (yes, gas tank too and the diverter valve) This is a common problem.

make sure you have no vacum leaks first. And your timing is correct, spark plugs, wires,cap, and rotor are all in good condition. After that run the screw in clockwise untill the engine begins to run rough, stop and back it out 1/2 turn. There is another adjustment the metering rod inside the carb, remove the top of the carb. Adjust the rod screw 3/4 of a turn (clockwise for more fuel counter clockwise for less fuel). It take alot of time, make sure you keep track of your adjustments incase you go the wrong way
