Usually valves are either noisy or not regardless of load. It is possibly main bearings or little end bearings.

How do I check that the vein rod is working and actuator on 09navarra d40 still having same problem

you should be able to manually pull the rod to check if the vanes are jammed or not . check the hose as it gets hot and cracks
However from you smokey and rattley statement I would consider pulling the injectors and have them re-tipped and calibrated as that is what happens when the injectors are not atomizing the fuel but squirting it out like a spray bottle.

Broke the plastic screen that goes to the cold water inlet valve?

The broken bit of filter has probably got stuck under the rubber diaphragm in the inlet valve. You will have to strip the inlet valve and remove the piece. There should be 3 or 4 screws holding the valve together. Make a note of how it comes apart. There will be a spring, a metal plunger and the rubber diaphragm inside the valve.

2003 B3000 v-6 idles rough but does not stall and runs well at highway speeds

Try turning on the ac or turning the steering. The increased load on the engine should lower the the rpm. If the Idle Air Control valve is working correctly it should sense the load and maintain the rpm or even increase it a bit.. Also this should be cover under warrenty.

2000 golf tdi - suddenly lost power then struggled to get back up to 60mph - engine sounds loud and rattley. My husband says there was no oil in the engine- he has topped up with best oil and truned it...

Hi ...... It sounds as if the turbo bearings or seal has blown, white smoke is a sign ........ or your head gasket. Try taking compression readings across the engine and/or looking into the expansion bottle for evidence of oil (head gasket def'ly).
Let us know how you get on.
