Question about 2001 Boss Hoss BHC 190 Hp
It's a high performance 113"S&S with a twin thunderjet Super D carb..start right up, goes straight to high idle with light black smoke...have set the idle screw per S&S..1 1/2 turns from closed..
The problem relates to the fuel flow.The flow is low or bit extra.Due to this the high idle problem is noticed.You will need to clean the carb and jets.If jets are faulty/ worn out then it has to be replaced. Jets are used to control the amount of fuel sent to the engine.
ThunderJet is a jet-able, externally mounted third fuel circuit that improves the performance of circuit carbs such as the S&S . Unmodified, these carbs typically have a low speed, or intermediate, circuit that supplies fuel from idle , at which point the carbs' main jet circuit becomes active, delivering more fuel to the engine. These two circuits must then supply fuel for the rest of the rpm range. The problem is: the remaining rpm range is too wide for only 2 circuits to handle efficiently. The tuner generally encounters problems jetting the carb to give good, crisp mid-range response and still have strong top-end power. A idle problem is the issue due to this.. Back the main jet down, carburetion in the mid-range is good but top-end is lacking. Increase the main, top-end improves but now the mid-range is rich; flat spots or hesitation is encountered.
Get your carb jetted right by the store and make sure that there are no intake leaks .
------- Take off the air cleaner. Does the filter smell like gas? Do you hit a certain rpm where it feels like its stumbling? A slight reversion at cruising rpm can soot up the plugs, and you are noticing the symptoms when you start, it goes to high idle.------- If carb not getting jetted right, then jets are to be replaced or may be carb needs to be rebuilt by the garage mechanic.--------But first thing to be tested is intake leaks and getting the car re-jetted and this should mostly help out.If not then further part replacement, troubleshooting has to be done.----------------
