Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic

2 Answers

My softail will not fire, it just turns over until I run the battery down and it will not turn over any more. I tried spraying starting fluid into the air cleaner with no success. I can smell gasoline so I know it is getting fuel but it will not ignite, start

I pulled the sparkplug and put the wire back on and grounded it on the engine and turned it over and saw no spark. Plug does not appear to be fouled. What is your next suggestion?

Have you tried taking a spark plug out and checking for fire? Most likely your ignition coil has gone bad. If it is getting spark you may have a bad crank position sensor screwing up your timing. Check the igniotion first and let me know.

First take your voltage tester and see if you have 12 volts with the ignition on at the coil(white wire). If not then chase the problem back to where you have 12 Volts and fix it. If you have 12 vlt at the coil then you either have a bad pickup or ignition module.

No spark-

is plug good,

is plug wire good and connected good.

Are you getting voltage to one side of the coil with the switch on the run position.

will the coil make a spark when you pull the coil wire out and hold it close to the coil and turn engine over.

If no spark at coil the magneto may be bad unless there is there is some solid state controls in-between.

Check for spark.. pull one spark plug out set it on bare metal(away from cyl hole fuel could light from spark) turn vehicle over and look for spark should be a nice lightning bolt looking spark... blue spark is weak spark.. and see if it's getting spark...,, if not,,."try new plugs.,wires, distributor cap&rotor " also first.spray a little starting fluid down the injection system turn it over and see if it fires.if it does then it's a fuel issue prob not electrical... try that.hope it helps

Why won't my jeep start after replacing the battery & the spark plugs?

Need four basics to start the engine; timing, spark, fuel and air.

Is the engine cranking? If so, have someone to spray 'starter fluid' into the immediate air induction port. If it doesn't fire and run for a few seconds, check the distributor source. If it does fire and run for a second or two, you may have a fuel pump down.

look for a bad ground, you can try running a new ground from the battery to the body, i had an 89 corsica that would not fire until i ran the new ground wire.

2002 malibu 3100 v-6 won't start, getting fuel and fire to all cylinders

if the security light is flashing than the anti theft is active. The anti theft shuts down the injectors and will not let the vehicle start.

You'll need a battery charger to do this. Hook up the battery charger to the battery.

Place the key in the igniton and attempt to start. Let the key return to the run postion and leave it there untill the light stops flashing. Turn the key off

Turn the key on (do not try to start) and wait for the light to stop flashing again.

turn the key off and then try to start the vehicle.

You can google search "resetting gm security" and find this info as well.

Run out of diesel gas. Filled it up and now it won't fire. only turns over. Is there something we should do when we run it down to empty?

You need to bleed the fuel right through to the injector pump. If there is no valve for the purpose you will have to loosen the pipe unions progressively towards the pump until fuel flows at all points one after the other. Many modern diesel engines have a valve and auxiliary hand pump to do the job .

Won't start. turning, but won't fire.

If you think its fuel, spray some starter fluid inthe throttle body. If it fires up, you have a fuel problem, otherwise, check your spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Also, check your fuses.

Fuel pump, you have to have press in the rail to fire all injectors- she will run on ether but not good for her. Ck your pump and any related fuses, relays, wiring.
