Question about Yamaha XT 125 R Motorcycles

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 1980 XT250 (not a 125, but my option was not available below) with the usual lighting problem - that the brake light flashes on and off in time to the indicator lights (comes on as the indicators flash off, and vice versa). I have been told this is a simple problem of earthing the bike properly, but I've just taken the seat and tank off and can't even SEE the earth! The wires from the tail-light are yellow, blue and black, and I can follow them through most of the loom but can't see anywhere where they - or any other wire - is attached to the frame for earthing. Any help is much appreciated. I hate to take a machine to the shop for what might be such a simple issue. Belinda

If you run a wire from the earth side of the bulb in the rear light cluster, (probably the black wire) to the negative of the battery that will stop that from happening and save you hours of fault finding as the fault could be anywhere in the loom.

Check for a bad, loose or corroded ground first. A bad ground can cause all sorts of funny things that make no sense. I have seen a bad ground cause the instrument lights flash when the brakes are applied, in a car.

Hi, R_enos54 for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. Loud low hum coming from the front of the car when accelerating. The handbrake/brake fluid light occasionally flickers on as I'm driving too. I recently hit the curb quite ******* the front left wheel. Do...

Hi ea
Im dave

The loud low hum sounds like a wheel bearing although i cant actually hear it. Does the sound get louder on right turns? Brake light coming on usually means low fluid check your fluid resorvoir if it below the max mark fill to the max mark. If it has run dry you probably need to bleed your brakes. The light however could mean your handbrake isnt fully released. Be sure it is all the way off if fluid level is adequate and the positioning of the cable is not kinked somewhere under the handbrake.
