On a2000buick century odometer not working

You would need to take it to the dealer or someother qualified repair shop that has the diagnostic tool to check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes in the instrument cluster .
DTC B0570 Season Odometer Malfunction

The instrument cluster receives a vehicle speed input from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) over the Class 2 line. This signal is used in order to drive the speedometer and the odometer of the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster will compare the VSS data with a 16-point look-up table in order to determine needle deflection. A smooth filter is used in order to secure a continuous response. The season odometer displays the total accumulated kilometers (miles) of the vehicle. This value is permanently stored in the Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) of the instrument cluster. The trip odometer displays the accumulated kilometers (miles) to the tenths of a kilometer (mile) since the last reset. This value is stored in Keep Alive Memory (KAM) of the instrument cluster.

Test Description
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
Always perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check before attempting to diagnose this DTC.
This diagnostic procedure requires using a scan tool.
This repair procedure requires instrument cluster replacement.
Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?
YES - Go to Step 2
NO - Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster
Using a scan tool, clear the instrument cluster DTC and retest for DTC B0570.
Does DTC B0570 reset?
Go to Step 3
Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 3.8L
Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

We had this problem on our H2. Ends up that we had to buy a new instrument cluster. In the mean time we used the speed calibration on our GPS unit to say out of tickets. A year later we finally replaced the cluster. Check out the Hummer forums for best places to buy.

2004 Buick Rendezvous Heads-Up Display intermittent problems

Your vehicles instrument cluster speedometer and heads up display unit both receive the same signal from the engine computer for the vehicles speed. The engine computer receives a signal from the vehicle speed sensor in the transmission for this to operate.

This isn't a speed sensor or engine computer failure as both would be erratic or off on signal and usually the check engine light would also come on with this problem here.

One of the two either the instrument cluster or the heads up display unit is at fault and is causing this.

What needs to be done from here is a scan tool needs connected to the vehicle to observe the speed signal on the data list in the engine computer and also in the instrument cluster to see if the speeds match each other.

If the engine computer is showing a different speed then what the instrument cluster is showing then the instrument cluster has an internal failure and needs repaired or replaced.

If both the instrument cluster and the engine computer speed signals match each other then the heads up display unit is faulty and needs replaced.

This is how it needs to be checked/diagnosed to see which is at fault. This is best checked by a dealer using their scan tool but any shop that has a scan tool that can communicate with these systems can also check these here.

If it needs a new cluster or heads up display these would have to be bought at a dealer or the dealer can remove yours and send them in for repair to their authorized repair facility

More info needed. Is this a hatch back, sedan, or CRX? Is the odometer mechanical [old style] or digital [LCD numbers] The vehicle speed sensor [located behind the speedometer in the instrument cluster] drives both the speedometer and the odometer [mileage meter]. It sounds like an electric problem in the instrument cluster. Remove the instrument cluster and take it to your local speedometer repair shop. Look in the yellow pages for them. Or simply buy and install a used instrument cluster from a junk yard.

The speedometer on my 1996 Honda Accord keeps sticking on 20 mph. What can I do to fix it?

your choices are a few, and dependent on how much you are willing to spend to fix a minor defect
on a 500 dollar car.

first get a repair manual on CD or look for a video of someone pulling a mid 90s honda instrument cluster on if that task looks to be within your skill set, buy a used honda instrument cluster for about 25 bucks at a junkyard or on ebay/craigslist. bear in mind it will be 16 years old too and your odometer will be completely wrong forever. swap in your newly acquired one and hope for the best.

alternatively look for a speedometer cable or speed sensor for your car at or if it has a speed sensor you can buy a new one swap it in and hope for the best. if it has a cable buy one. Pull the old cable out, squirt some graphite lube down into the new one install it and hope for the best.

when you are all done, you will still have a 500 dollar car so long as it runs. a new set of GOOD plug wires and plugs might be a more sensible investment for the future.

Speedometer quit working.

It is either mechanical or electronic. If mechanical a cable comes out of a socket on the transmission and plugs into the back of the instrument cluster. Either the cable or the cluster is bad. If it is electronic then a speed sensor is attached to the transmission and it sends a signal to the instrument cluster. Either the sender or the cluster is bad. You can get used clusters at junkyards or on eBay, new clusters will not be available for a car that old. You can get new cables and senders at parts stores. You can buy repair manuals on eBay and at parts stores and you can search for repair videos on to see how these parts are removed and replaced. How much money you are going to spend to fix a 500 dollar vehicle is the issue, frankly I would live with a dead speedometer.

Speed odometer not working

it is either mechanical or electronic. if it is mechanical there is a cable in a jacket coming from the transmission to the instrument cluster. either the cluster is bad or the cable has broken. if it is electronic then there is a sender on the transmission and either it is bad or the cluster is bad. the cable and sender are cheap and fairly easy to replace. if that is not it then you are looking at a replacement cluster. a dealer can tell you which type of speedometer you have. a new cluster and labor to install it will most likely cost more than the value of the car. a used one can be had at a junkyard or on ebay, find a local shop to install it bearing in mind it will b 18 years old too. most folks just live with this kind of defect in old cars.

Odometer not working

Could be that speedo cable has become disconnected or that the inner shaft has broken. The speed cable is connected between the back of the instrument cluster and the left side of the transmission. Check under the car that the cable is securely fitted to the side of the transmission. Disconnect it and and check on the condition of the square drive flexible shaft. The spinning of this inner shaft is what conveys the output shaft speed of the transmission to the instruments. The instrument cluster can be removed but pushing a length of coat hanger wire with right angle turn on its end between the the cluster and the dashboard surround. Turn the coat hanger to hook behind the cluster and pull forward to remove it. Try several points around the cluster. It is best to disconnect the speedo drive cable to withdraw the cluster (after electrical connections have been disconnected. check that the speedo cable is secure to the back of the instruments. If you remove the cluster completely follow the path of the speedo cable. If you have to replace the cable, tying a length of string to the speedo cable end first and posting the string down the cable path will help the re-installation enormously. Simply pull the string whilst reinstalling the instrument cluster until the end of the speedo can be got hold of. Refit the speedo cable to the transmission only after the instrument cluster is back in place.

I have a 94 sl1 saturn,the speed odometer works,the milage odometer dosnt .How do i fix it

Buy a working used cluster on ebay or from a junkyard and swap it. Or buy the repair kit for this problem, they used to sell them on ebay, and repair your cluster. Look on youtube for a video about pulling the dash cover and instrument cluster.
