Question about 2004 Honda VT 1100 C2 Shadow Sabre

2 Answers

2004 Honda Sabre 1100 has been sitting for almost 2 years. I'm going to change the oil, filter and plugs before starting it. My question is: is there a way to force oil through the engine prior to turning it over? In the old days of simple V-8's we used to pull the distributor and use a drill to spin the oil pump. Is there anything like this that I can do before cranking the bike? I really don't want to take it apart in my driveway.

The best way is to simply set the kill switch so the engine can't start, then just let the starter motor turn the engine over for minute. Don't twist the throttle and the engine shouldn't flood. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

remove the spark plugs first drop in some engine oil and turn the motor over with out any plugs and no compression this will lube the pistons and cylinder walls ( just a few drops in each cylinder is enough and maybe a little WD40 .... now replace the plugs and try starting it

If you remove the spark plugs and put a few drops of engine oil in each cylinder and then hit the starter the motor will turn over but with out any pressure and the oil will lubricate the cylinder walls if all goes well replace the spark plugs and give it ago .

2006 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 oil pressure issues

Hi, Anonymous you may have a faulty sending unit to check for normal engine oil pressure, make sure the engine oil level is between the add and full marks on the dipstick. Remove the oil pressure sending unit, located on the right engine case, behind the oil filter mounting bracket, and replace/plum/or rig with a known good mechanical gauge that reads 0 to 40/50 lbs. Start the engine and run it until the engine oil reaches the normal operating temperature of 230 degrees. At 1,000 RPM, the oil pressure should be 2 to 4 lbs. at 2,000 RPM the oil pressure should be 30 to 38 lbs. 2004 Honda VT 1100 C2 Sabre starts fine but acts like its running out of gas after riding a half mile. Let it sit for awhile and It will ride for another half mile then stop again. I have changed the fuel...

Next time it does this, remove/open the gas cap and see if that helps.
If so, then the venting system for the gas tank is plugged somewhere, and you're vapor locking.

Got power but go to start and nothing headlight just go's off ?

This one almost for sure is a reversed wiring problem with your headlight. I would start there and then I would check all of my grounds as well.

I have a 2004 Honda shadow sabre, what oil weight is recommended in wisconsin?

Your motorcycle comes from Honda usually with 10w-40 mineral base motorcycle oil. This is what they recommend for year round driving. You can use any oil that is JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate (Wisconsin). 20w-50 for warm climate/touring. Car oils use different additives and may cause scoring in certain types of cam bearings. Do not use any oil that says " Energy Conserving " on the label . It will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. If you choose Synthetic oils, they will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Shell Rotella T and Rotella T Synthetic 15w-40 are inexpensive JASO MA oils. The 15w-40 would be a great all around weight for your needs. You will need 4 quarts of oil, an aluminum drain plug washer, and a filter. Pour in 3.2 quarts , run the motor, and check the oil level . Top up as needed.

I have a 2002 Honda VT 1100 C2 Sabre and I just flushed all of the oil out of the pan and also changed out the filter. How many liters of motor oil do I have to put back into the reservois?

I have checked my service manual and it does not state quantities just top up the oil until the glass level is up to the mark. Don't forget the oil filter will take a little extra oil.
Sorry

Want to change all fluids on a 1985 Sabre 1100 with 20k on the spedo. What types of fluiids do you recomend?

The oil & transmission are covered in shot. The brake fluid you will want to inspect to see if is clear and free of sediment. Change at will.
Fork oil is something to change also.
If the bike has been sitting up for any period of time go through the carbs, fuel petcock, and clean out and flush gas tank. Hope this helps.
