Ts 185 is a two stroke, the crank case oil is actually only the gearbox oil, the volumne is caste onto the side cover(like 750cc).near the filler cap.
The engine oil is mixed with the fuel and is pumped in from the oil tank under the seat.
The wrong oil or no oil in the tank under the seat can cause it to lose compression. and cause engine damage.
Visit a bike shop and get motorcycle gear oil20w50 for gearbox. and two stroke motorcycle engine oil for the oil tank.
As it is quite old someone may have removed the oil tank, thinking they will make it go faster or save weight or another stupid reason, if this is so you need to mix the two stroke oil with the petrol when you fill the tank at approx 25-1 ( 25 litres petrol mixed with 1 litre of oil)

How much and what kind of oil do i put in the lower end? can't tell if it's the crankcase or the transmission without tearing it down. found one in a barn with great compression that i'm fixing...

10w-40 JASO MA rated motorcycle oil is the best choice for the transmission of of your TS185 Suzuki motor. If you want to spend a little more money you could use 70 or 75 WT motorcycle gear oil or a synthetic JASO MA rated motorcycle oil.

check to see if gas is flowing from gas line make sure fuel tap is turned on. Check the plug and replace it if not new check to see if the carburetor is dirty. Make sure if you have an oil injector to check the oil lines. To name a few things.

Hi i got a ts250 x and i think i put the wrong oil init and is over heatin so i was just wonderin if you could help me on what engine oil i have to use thanks alot :)

which engine oil are you talking about. There is a tank under the seat that uses injection oil for a 2 stroke, or the engine oil in the crank cases that uses 10w40 motorcycle oil.

The gear box shares the engine oil in most motorcycles. Is yours a two cycle engine or a four?

How much and what oil is recommended for the gear box

The Suzuki ts 185 er 1990 model takes 700ml of 10~30 weight engine oil. On MOST makes you will find the oil capacity on the clutch cover ,usually towards the bottom of the oil filler hole.

Suzuki is reving high for a long time and loss of power

When you say revving high, does that mean without you applying the throttle? If so, you may have a bad crank seal. Have you been noticing more smoke than normal? A drop in transmission oil?
Crank seals do go. The magneto side can be replaced without pulling the motor. the clutch side, however....... This I know from personal experience!

Oil level for Suzuki TS 185 (1989)

Drain the oil and put 750ml back into the gearbox. If your bike doesn't have a dipstick and you have good, clean oil in it, drain it into a plastic bowl then put it right back into the engine but measure it before you pour it back in. When you get 750ml in the box then look at the level in the box. That is the level to maintain.

Pleas rate this solution. Thanks!
