I use a 3.9kw elemax generator, how do i disengage the alternator from the prime mover so i can change the piston rings

You would the remove the stator and then the rotor. The rotors are usually mounted via a taper shaft, Some rotors have been thread for jack screws and others are not just depends on your setup.

Take the through bolt out of the end of the alternator / rotor shaft. it is a long bolt. The shaft from the engine is tapered and unlikely to just pop off. Find a bolt that will screw into the end of the rotor shaft (hardend) find a metal bar that will slide into the rotor long enough so the bolt tightens down on the bar, it will pop the alternator off the tapered shaft

How do i separate the engine from generator on powermate 5000

It generally has a long rotor through bolt accessibile from the generator end, this forces the generator rotor onto a tapered shaft on the engine. Once removed the through bolt slide a long bar ion the hole and screw the bolt back in, that will force it off the taper

I just seperated the tapered crankshaft from the rotor of my coleman generator ( coleman powermate 2250 with a 5hp briggs and stratton engine). I applied PB blaster, and hit the end bell with a dead blow...

No there is not a key of any sort between the rotor and crankshaft, to verify you will not find a keyway to put one into on the shaft. Just the end bolt with washer holds it on.

Does anyone know how to remove the rotor assembly from the engine?

I am assuming that you have removed the end bell with field winding and the only obstacle is the rotor on the crank of the engine. I am also assuming that you were able to remove the long bolt thru rotor into crank. Now you will need to apply penetrating oil to the shaft of the engine to loosen the rust on the taper (tapered shaft fits very tightly into core of rotor). It may take several applications. Place a piece of hardwood against metal to protect the rotor and firmly rap with hammer on both sides. You may need to use pry bar against engine and rotor as you hammer hardwood. Repeat as necessary, some rotors will be very stuck due to rust. Good luck.

How is the armature attached to the crankshaft on a Coleman Powermate 54 series?

the rotor has one bolt that goes through the rotor shaft into the crankshaft. the rotor is tapered to fit the crankshaft. remove the bolt and use a brass drift pin on the rotor shaft and give it a hard rap with a hammer. the rotor should come right off the crankshaft.

Removing engine from generator

you cannot just pry it off...this model has a tapered shaft...

first remove the plastic cover underneath...then disconnect the wires and set the cover aside..loosen the center bolt that clamps the rotor to the crankshaft (loosen but dont remove...just thread it out approximately 3/16-1/4 inch) and use an automotive alternator/power steering pressed on pulley removal/installer tool to put pressure on the bolt and pop the taper loose..the ridge on the rotor is the right size for this type of puller tool....you may need to put the puller really tight and tap the end of it to break tension...you''l hear a "pop" when the taper lets go and then its simply a matter of removing the tool and unthreading the bolt ....set the rotor aside and then there is just three bolts to remove the engine.
