Question about kawasaki KX 250 Motorcycles

1 Answer

1991 KDX 250 uses alot of spark plugs.splutters and bogs down after riding at low rpm. plug comes out wet and black with no spark. new plug fixes problem immediately but happens again after about 5 litres of fuel. this problem did not exist when fuel had lead in it.fuel oil ratio have tried between 30-40:1.I am a mechanic by trade but this one has got me.I've owned the bike for about16 years and as I said it did not do it with leaded fuel. Oil I use is Motul 510 please help if you can

I have a John Deere 6330 that burns to much fuel, but has spells where it will drop rpm, and has no power.alot of black smoke during the bad spells.

Have you tried replacing the spark plug/plugs with a new set of quality US made spark plugs. NOT CHINESE IMPORT PLUGS either!

Cheesy spark plugs will fail under load if they are imports. Stick to the same heat range as the original park plugs. What brand of fuel are you using too? Stick to a quality brand of fuel and not the discount gas stations. Good luck.

Kdx 125 sputters just before the "powerband" kicks in

I used to ride enduro in the 1980s on a KLX 250 :>)

Sounds like you have two issues.

Your spluttering and jolting sounds like a defective Reed Valve, but could also be carburetor float level problems. If it is runs fine when on the power band, then the carb is fine. For the cost, I would replace the reed valve.

Regarding the electrics, this could be a few things. Check all the earthing points, especially the one on the negative side of the battery. Take the wire off where it grounds to the frame, clean and apply Vaseline which stops corrosion and is electrically conductive. Check all the connectors that you can find. Pull them and make sure they are clean and sealed. Vaseline is good on these too. The specs below confirms it is rectified and regulated. Check the output voltage of the alternator with a test meter. Check the battery is as spec Battery 12v 3Ah and get it stress tested, or just replace it, if it older than 3 or 4 years.

You really need a good workshop manual. I had them for all my scooters and bikes.

New spark plugs turn black after going twenty miles

Hi
Make sure the air filter is clean (& not over oiled if sponge type)
Make sure that the pilot screws on #1 & #3 are 2 turns out and #2 is 2.25 turns out
Try turning 1/8 of a turn at a time
Also change to a softer plug - NGK DPR7EA-9 or equivalent as these stay hotter to burn more carbon off
