Well, if you have a carb, no problem. Just drop the float bowl and go to the next larger slow jet. If you've got fuel injection, you may have to buy an electronic gadget so you can adjust the fuel air mixture. I know nothing about the fuel injected models. Sorry.

Why is my bike running lean? I have a 99 FXSTS, running 2into1 V&H, EV27 cam, K&N Airfilter. I changed the intake manifold gaskets, cleaned the carb, checked diaphragm for wholes and float level,...

Try going up a few sizes on the main jets. Because you now have a more free flowing exhaust and more air flow thru the intake with the K&N. It needs to be rejetted.

Bike runs better with the choke on?

You have an enrichener not a choke on your intruder. Most bikes are set up very lean so when you enrichen or increase fuel they run better. Has your bike been stored for a long time? Your jets could be partially clogged.. pour a qualty fuel cleaner in your tank like Lucas, Berrymans, or Techroline by Chevron. Also if you have modified your air cleaners you will run lean and need to re-jet..

Idle low stalls stopped

This is usually a fuel problem. The bike is running either too lean or too rich. Check your spark plugs -- if there's black carbon on the tips, the fuel/air mixture is too rich and needs to be leaned out. If they're white, it's running too lean. If they're tan, there's some other issue. Clean or replace the air filters and check your inline fuel filter (if you have one) to make sure there are not clogs or obstructions.

750 shadow running lean. How do i fix this? Pilot screw adjustment?

why do you think the bike is running lean ? - DOT dictates that the idle srew head be soldered filled to stop tampering ( i believe ) - most bikes run correctly if the carbs are maintained, and kept in adjustment as to factory specs -- normally you will not have to touch them

I have a 1999 Nomad when I am riding down the road and my temp light will comes on and the bike wants to stall out, I let up on th ethrottle and teh light goes off, also when I hit a bump the same thing...

Symptoms of a bike running VERY lean. You should never have to ride with the choke on AT ALL.And running a bike lean, causes iit to overheat, and overheat FAST! Has the exhaust or air filter/box been modified? This is classic symptoms of an extremely lean running bike, and my solution would be to buy a jet kit, take the carbs off and clean them, install the correct larger jets, and synch the carbs. You dont wanna ride this bike like that,or you risk burning a piston.

Bike starts up fine when I turn throttle it back fires

If by "back fires" you are talking about the engine spitting back through the intake, this is because the engine's fuel mixture is too lean for the conditions. If the engine is cold, this is common. If it's doing it once the engine reaches full operating temperature, it's an indication that he fuel air mixture is too lean. They often come from the factory jetted or tuned to run very lean so that the bikes can meet the EPA's emission regulations. Take the bike to a performance oriented shop that has a dynometer and an exhaust gas analyzer. Have them run it up and check the fuel air mixture and they can advise you what you need to do to make your bike run better and cooler.

Good Luck

Hello, My 2011 fatboy lo runs very hot. I have Vance and Hines big radius and screamin eagle stage one kit. It runs hot but it runs awsome. i wanted to put an oil cooler on the bike but was told to leave...

There's hot and there's too hot. Heat is one of the factors that shorten the life of an engine, especially an air cooled engine. You bike is equipped with the oil jets that help cool the pistons. If it were my bike, I'd take the bike to a known good high performance shop that had a dynometer, an exhaust gas analyzer, and a good mechanic that knew what he was doing with both the bike and the dyno. I'd have them run the bike up through the RPM range and check the fuel-air mixture ratio at various rpm levels. If the bike is running too lean, it'll run hot. Lean is mean but too lean is bad. The mechanic may can richen the mixture up just a bit, say from 14.2:1 to 13.7:1 and reduce the heat while maintaining the performance you want. It's worth a try.

Good luck
Steve

What to do if the engine gets to hot?????

Is it getting too hot to run properly? Most air-cooled motors run plenty hot compared to their water cooled counterparts.

If you think the bike is running too hot because of running issues I would check the usual suspects. Timing, spark, fuel.

You will need a timing light and a clymer or factory manual if you got one with the bike. The spark plug just needs checking to see if its worn down causing its own issues with timing *(with the side benefit of seeing if the bike is running too lean. A bone white spark plug electrode tip cover=too lean)

This is to say that bad timing, widened/worn spark plug or lean fuel mix can all cause a bike to run hotter than normal. But they all usually come along with driveability issues as well.

So....check it out....be careful....and good luck!

Is it common for the first 8 or 10 inches.

Bluing does mean lean, but you have to take into effect that HD 's right out of the crate are running at 16.5 : 1 air fuel ratio, which is way lean ( they do it for emissions ) You could richen up the power commander a little, You could take it to a dealer that is an authorized Power Commander Tuning Link Center. They can create a map from scratch for your bike, specifically to the way your particular motor combo breathes. But you have to understand that by richening up the mix, to stop the lean condition, you're going to sacrifice fuel economy, because you will be using gas to cool the motor.

What aboute the exhaust get realy red and orange on the exit of the celinder

If this is noticeable in the daylight, your fuel mixture is probably running very lean (not enough fuel) and you should not run the bike until you find out why (carburetor issue possibly). If you only notice this at night, a dull orange glow is not unusual, if it is bright red or goes very far down the pipe your mixture is probably lean.

If you continue to run the bike in a lean condition you will likely damage the engine severely, blowing the headgasket or burning the valves.
