Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

May I suggest a trip to your local library. Cycle repair books should be in 646 stacks of reference.
Otherwise you can Google for 2003 Clymer Service manuals on the internet.
I think Clymer had electrical diagrams in their books. I doubt that any except the HD service book would have anything about the physical location of the harness, but the pictures in the other books would help you.

SOURCE: how to adjust valves on 97 harley fatboy motor

There is no adjustment on the tappets in your 97 Fat Boy. It is equipped with hydraulic tappets similar to an automotive engine. Probably what you are hearing is a bit of wear in the rocker shaft. you can take your rocker arms out and have new bushings and shafts installed if it bothers you that much. If the tick is a loud tick, one where people turn around and look at your bike when you start it up, you may have a bad roller on a tappet. This makes a terrible noise. If this is the case, you are probably going to need a new camshaft as well and the locked up roller will gall the surface of the cam. I've seen these rollers go bad at any mileage from 13K to 70K.

Good Luck
Steve

When is the last time you checked the tension on your primary chain. That's about the only owner serviceable thing that I know that might cause this problem. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the inspection cover from the primary cover, stick your finger in and check the tension on the chain on the top run. It should have between 3/4 and 7/8 inch up and down travel with the engine cold. To adjust, loosen the nut on the adjuster. Raise the adjuster shoe to reduce the play, lower to increase it. When you get it right, tighten the nut and replace the inspection cover. If this doesn't stop your problem, you'll have to take it to a shop and let them hear the noise to determine whether or not it is something to be concerned about.

Good Luck

How do you adjust and line up the rear tire on a 2004 Fatboy?

The best way to do this is to measure the belt tension adjuster bolts on either side of the swing arm. They should both measure the same. When adjusting the belt, get both bolts at the same measurement. Then adjust the bolt to push the tire to the rear the same on each side at a time. Like if you turn the right bolt a quarter turn, do the same with the left side bolt. Always adjust the bolt pushing the axle to the rear. If you get the belt too tight, loosen the bolts at least two turns, bump the wheel forward and start going backwards again, this time in smaller increments. Once you are finished, the two bolts should measure the same length. This almost guarantees that the axle is 90° of the centerline of the bike.

Good Luck

You need to rebuild the carborateur, it sounds like the diaphragm has played out, when you must use the choke to pull the gas through the carborateur

The Haynes Shop manuals are God sends. www.haynes.com They have everything you need and then some to be able to tear down and rebuild your bike and maintain it through the years. tend to be about $40 but are worth hundreds if you ask me.
