Question about Suzuki GS 750 L Motorcycles

I have a customised 1980 gs850 with no rev counter cable, i have been told that the engine leak is caused by the missing cable but cant find where it goes in to the engine. also i couldnt find gs850 in the drop down menu below many thanks

Look under the carbs,towards the back of the enginge and you will see a threaded piece where the tacho cable screws on

My outboards rev counters or speed/fuel gauges dont work, although they light up.


Did you connect the second needed cable in your new engine? this is a 4-wire cable... Need an adapter 4-6 pins in some cases. This cable is needed to send the data from the engine to the dashboard.

Rev counter activates when ignition is turned on ,but wont work when engine running


This is usually caused by a broken sender wire. Check the cable for tight bends from the sender unit up to the rev counter, you will probably have to purchase a new sender unit.

I have a 1986 gs850. when opening the throttle to pull away the motor hesittates making clutch balance difficult to get away. engine feels like its going to stall carbs have been balanced, but the bikes...


Hello raising the needle would help but depending on how long the bike has been in around.
check for intake leaks at the carb joints that connect the carbs to the head.start the bike let it warm up and use WD40spray around the carb joints if the rpm's change you have a leak and recommend replacing carb joints and gaskets while your doing that clean or have the carbs cleaned or rebuilt

1987 suzuki gs850 when trying to pull away from standstill engine hesitates then revs & goes making it hard to pull away.


could be clutch slipping. also can be caused by the rubber diaphragms in the top of the carbs having pinhole leaks.

The engine revs increase when the engine gets warm.


Sounds like you are running lean. you may need to find an air leak in the intake tracked of the carb and motor. or the carb is dirty or miss adjusted pilot screw.

My rev counter does not work on my kawasaki er5 1999


The ER5 has got an electronic rev-counter, no cable.

Like the oval rear brake-drums this is another ER5 bugbear, the rec/rec fails, the battery boils and the rev-counter is usually a victim too.
Often on ER5 specific forums there will be someone who repairs the circuit board and sells the repaired units much cheaper than a new one. it's usually a tiny zener-diode that is killed.

ello m8,, i see u have a few testers to try out by scorch there,, all i can anserw 4 yuh to your question,, is electronic rev counters if there is no cable,, work off the coils m8,, u can try a quick tester, by runnin a wire from the live or plus from one of the coils and touching it to the live of the rev counter,, bike must be runnin tho,,try that 2 m8,, cheers

hard starting in the moning if your engine is diesel check your heater plugs means when the diesel engine is cold it needs to heat up, also injection pump and injectors can cause.check the engine compretion.
the petrol engine when your sparkplugs is worn out it can be or when the cyliner head valves is leaking puting more petrol on the combustion chamber.
