Question about Honda CB 750 Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 1974 CB750 Honda and I have owned it since 1975. It has run well over the years. I went to start it the other day and when I hit the start button, I lost power and the bike is dead. No lights, power etc. I have checked the main fuse and it is OK. The battery is in fine condition too. I have cheked conti nuity across the ignition switch and it is fine too. Any suggestions on what else to look at?

If you lost all electrics, it may be in the battery cables, check where it grounds to the frame and the engine, and check continuity of the cables themselves in case they have corroded or broken under the insulation.
.you said the main fuse is ok but does it have power to it? use a test light to check both side of fuse for power

Hi, Anthony for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. I have a 1974 honda cb750 my first bike and i dont know nothing about bikes.it dose not run and the guy said the oil just drained out one night. anybody know what that means?

If it's a 4 cycle engine that doesn't mix oil with the gas (2 cycle engine), then I would say that there is an oil leak, a massive one, that needs to be repaired before trying to start and run it.

Maybe the oil pan got rusty or something. I don't know.

Good luck on the repair.

Sounds like that cylinder is running very lean, which causes high heat. If you have multi carbs, get them synchronized right away, the high heat can ruin a cylinder/burn a valve.

disconnect throttle cable from carb. linkage to determine if cable is binding/broken and see that linkage moves smoothly.lubricate linkage.'slide' type carburetters were popular in the '70's sticking slides can be cleaned with carb cleaner spray.
