Your bike came new from the factory with Harley-Davidson Syn3 20W50 synthetic engine oil in the engine, transmission, and primary. You can change brands of any oil you wish but go online and see what the manufacturer recommends. Some other manufacturers of lubricants are Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil, Golden Spectro, and RevTech. Just follow their recommendations. The engine holds approx. 3 quarts, the primary holds approx. a quart, and the transmission holds 20-24 ounces. Always check the level with the dipstick once you change the oil. The dipsticks have two marks on them. The upper mark is "FULL HOT" and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Do not overfill.

Good Luck

Were is the oil dip stick on a 2004 dyna wide glide

Hi Anonymous, the engine oil dipstick on later models unscrews, on earlier models it just pulls out with moderate force, on Softail and Sportster models the dipstick is located on the right hand front side of the oil tank and the Harley Bible says, engine should be at normal operating tempurature, let idle on jiffy stand for two minutes. Shut off engine and hold bike straight up and dipstick all the way in, correct engine oil level will be at the top full mark. Do not overfill oil tank as this will cause engine breathing issues. On Dyna and Touring models The engine oil dipsticks are located on the right front top corner of the transmission and the engine oil pan is underneath the transmission. The engine oil level is checked in the same manner as Softails and Sportsters. If you are having oil carryover or breathing issues (dipstick launch) try running oil level half way between the add and full marks, running the engine at this oil level will not harm normal operation. Good luck and have nice day.

Need to know oil type for 2012 fxdwg

Hi Robert, depends on the average temperature you expect to be riding in untill your next oil change. Contact your local dealer for advice. HD makes several different grades of oil. If you elect to run HD 20w50 SYN 3, which I highly recomend, then it does not matter what temperature you are going to ride in. As an added bonus they call it SYN 3 because you can run 20w50 in your engine, transmission and primary and it comes in a single container to change all 3. No longer do have to purchase 3 different types of oil for your Harley. Great stuff

Cant get engine oil to drain on 2004 dynawideglide

The oil tank for the engine oil is on the bottom of the transmission. There are two drain plugs on the bottom of the transmission, one on the bottom and one on the side. The one on the bottom should be for the engine oil.

Good Luck
