Well it depends on the model of back rest. But most have mounting screws that connect the back rest around the back fender under the back seat.

Ford 2008 expedition, power drivers seat won't recline, but everything else works.

Power Recliner
The driver seat has an electro-mechanical backrest adjuster. The backrest adjustment switch is located on the side of the seat cushion side shield and is part of the seat control switch. The recliner motor is mounted to the backrest frame. Power recliners and motors are only serviceable by installing a new backrest frame assembly.

How do I change the battery on a 2008 ultra clasic

1. Remove the seat, The easiest way for me is to open the back compartment, look between the seat and the passenger backrest. Youll see a little fat phillips screw. Unscrew that and lift the seat foward and up.

2. If you look directly under the seat, you will see a gaggle of wiring and a box maybe 6" X 4", this is your ECM, DO NOT UNPLUG THIS. instead take it out of the caseing and move it aside.

3. Look for Torx head bolts toward the rear of the opening and box. I believe its a T40 bit for that. Once thats done, remove the covering and set it aside.

4. Youll see the battery. It takes a 10mm socket to undo. Undo the negative first and then the positive. Make sure you note, EXACTLY how the wires are run to the battery.

5. Remove the battery, and replace with new.

6. Assemble exact oposite how you disassembled.

Sportsman 500 X2 passenger backrest stuck in place

I too have a x2 mine is an 08 x2 800 stealth but I think it is all the same. You can start by looking over the safety latches located under the passenger seat and make sure everything looks to be working. second make sure your box is latched all the way on both sides. If it is and you can still dump with the seat out it is definitely the safety latch malfunction. Now to get it down pull the lever behind the passenger back rest and slam it down that usually always works for mine. Try doing what I said above and then take a real good look ant both the primary and safety latch for the seat and the box and then clean them and lubricate them with some wd 40 to make sure they are not just sticking. hope this helps
