When you say Start the engine...do you mean the starter engages and starts cranking engine?
If thats the case most bikes use a starter relay (aka starter solenoid) that has a cable directly from the battery to it. The starter button with the key on, energizes the relay, so the solenoid sends power to crank the starter.
If the solenoid is stuck in the closed (electrically) position power will flow to starter whenever the battery cables are connected. So the solenoid needs to be replaced....you could try tapping it to free the contacts but its probably damaged.

If the bike is cranking and starting and running without the key in, it would suggest multiple wiring issues or mods have been made.

When there is excessive current drain when you try to start, then it is likely there is binding or internal shorting.
If when you stop trying to start, the 6 volts comes back up to 12, then the battery is good and it really is excessive starter draw.
I mention that because an over night drain from something staying on could also require a jump, even though there was not excessive starter draw.

But since you have a new starter, there is always the chance the engine itself is binding.
Perhaps from a bad bearing.
The way to tell is to remove the spark plugs.
See how it turns over by hand, compared to another engine.
Check oil pressure.
Look for metal flakes in the oil change or pan.

One last hope is that the starter has the wrong number of teeth, and is not a perfect fit, was not installed or aligned correctly, etc.
Or perhaps there is a bushing that is worn, like the old VW's used to have in the bellhousing.

How do i change the starter in my 1993 camero

disconnect the red terminal from battery. jack up car enough to get under. secure with jack stands. near rear of engine under car, is the starter. unplug electrical harness from starter. remove bolts. as you remove the bolts, starter will come down. remove, put new one in. put bolts in, tighten bolts. plug electricfal harness in to new starter. lower car from jack stands. connect red terminal to battery. if you have an alarm, put key in ignition to on position before connecting battery.
