The engine oil tank is on the bottom of the transmission. On one corner of the transmission there is a large 2" diameter cap with knurling on the edges. Pull this out and you'll see the oil dipstick. Check the oil with the bike on the side stand. Lower mark is FULL COLD, upper mark is FULL HOT. do not overfill. Capacity with filter change 3 quarts.

The transmission oil is separate from the engine oil. On the right side of the bike just behind the exhaust system is the chrome clutch release mechanism. It has a plug in it that takes a 7/16" Allen or Hex key wrench to remove it. With the bike standing straight up, the oil level should be between the two marks on the dipstick. Capacity 20-24 ounces

The primary also has oil in it. With the bike standing straight up, remove the round "derby" cover. Inside is the clutch assembly. You'll see a bright ring around the clutch assembly with the dark clutch spring inside. Fill the oil just until it touches the lowest point of the dark clutch spring. Do not overfill. Capacity, 36-42 ounces.

Good Luck
Steve

Is it possible for the transmission fluid in my 2005 Road King to leak into the crank case oil pan?

if there is a faulty seal on the crankshaft then the gear oil can get to the crankcase
being a separate case with separate oil, check that the breather for the transmission is not blocked and the pressure build up is not forcing the oil past the seal into the crankcase

I cannot post you a picture but the engine oil drain plug is on the left hand front of the oil pan. It is a 5/8 inch hex plug with a 1/4 inch allen socket in its center.

Gear lube where to add

on a 1991 geo prizm auto trans.. differental oil should be put in through the speedometer gear housing. this is the simple way. now i actually put mine in in by reaching behind the driver front wheel and you can see the fill plug "bolt" keep in mind i had a wrench bent for this. mine leaks gear oil and have to add it once a month. anyways, i took about a 1/2 inch tube two and half feet long. with an elboe on it so i could pop it in the hole and fill it. anyone that has a geo prizm 88-93 i think should get this differental oil check or check it. i was on intersate and went from 65 mph to 45 mph very quick. the gears ate the housing up. had to look two weeks to find a trans for it. then found one sitting on the side of the road with a rod through the engine after driving four hours only to find out it was the same way mine was. Has anyone else had this problem?

I changed my ,02 roadkings trans. fluid --only 16oz drained out --i had the bike level--put 20oz back in --no reading on dipstick--do you check oil with bike level or on stand--also do you measure level...

Check the level of the transmission lube with the bike standing straight up. The transmission holds between 20 and 24 ounces of oil. I always put 24 ounces in them. It should check on the dipstick without the dipstick screwed in. Do not overfill.

Look under the transmission. The oil tank for your RK is on the bottom of the oil pan. The drain is on the left front corner of the pan.

What weight oil goes in transmission on a 1999 harley davidson road king with 88 cubic inch motor

Mostly all motorcycles use the same oil in their Engins and transmission, you do not needs to put a seperate oil into the transmission, as the engin and transmission uses the same oil, you will also see that there is nowhere that you can top up the transmission oil, most motorcycles use 20W50 oils, but it can also depend on what country you are from

I have a 05 road king custom, Im doing my forst

The filters should be the same.
Make sure you have a new o-ring for the oil plug.
Make sure you properly ID the oil plug, there are two under there, one is oil, other is trans.
Don't overfill oil.
Don't over-tighten oil plug on re-installation, the aluminum threads are notorious for pulling out. Oil ring does the seal, snugly tight, don't put all you have into it.

Went to find this info, and there's an old Harley mechanic, (Kinda' looks like me!), that has a step by step Video of how to do an oil change on a Road King!
