Backfiring is fuel in the exhaust due to over rich mixture (perhaps too much choke) or valve clearances too tight etc

6.8 V10 hard to start and backfires once I got it to start fuel pressure was 87psi at idle no codes im suspecting fuel pressure regulator?? Any ideas?

If its the fuel system it should not backfire. It could be out of time synchronous (ignition - crank sensor - belt). becareful!!! you could hurt it if you try to start it to many times.

No start, backfiring while cranking, 3.1M V6 in a '96 Monte Carlo

I'd have to make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections good. Sometimes if vehicle is hard to start, people run the battery down? We can't do any testing if battery is down. Use a digital mutimeter across battery posts, everything off. The generic spec for a full charge is around 12.6 volts. Leave the meter leads touching the battery posts, have helper turn key to crank, the reading shouldn't drop below 9 volts, That reading may vary a little from one vehicle to another. Some say 9.6 volts, some say ten, you get the picture.
How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Does it backfire out the exhaust or intake? I'd want to check fuel trims, see if anything shows up? As far as hydrostatic lock, pull the spark plugs, see if any fluid comes out?

Gmc 4.3 won't start and backfires

Sounds like you may have a crank sensor or a ignition module,or pickup coil gone bad,you should use a scan tool to look for cranking RPM's,or pull your distributor cap and look for a green corrosion on the pickup coil wires at the module.

1989 park avenue would run about 60 miles then die, could restart immediately, but would go about 4 to 10 miles then die again, could restart immediately but would repeat the 4 to 10 mile thing. A couple...

check harmonic balancer for slop back and forth,,,,these 3.8's have a crank posision sensor behind the balancer, that run off of the balancer,,,gthe rubber wears out and they start to flop around and timing gets messed up.../they cost around 100 bucks for a aftermarket, and if thats the problem,do yourself a favor and replace CPS while tour at it....good luck...Lee
