Question about 2004 Yamaha XT 660 X

Seem to have a small amount of play on rear sproket,it moves before wheel does is this correct !

A small amount is ok as it has a rubber mounting between the sprocket carrier and the wheel, If it gets too much it may need new rubber cush drive.

Slack in chain on 2004 gsxr 600


Hi Sean:
To adjust the chain tension you need to move the rear wheel.
That involves slacking off the axle nuts, turning the nuts equally on the adjusters until you get the required tension, and then tightening the axle nuts. You should also check the prake pedal for correct amount of free play after doing a chain adjustment.

09 stang GT/CS conv. play in Rt.Rr wheel lugs r tight. I can move wheel and rotor in and out a lil bit. No grinding noise when wheel spins.


There may be a slight amount of end play in each rear wheel if rear wheel drive. This is normal axle end play with a solid axle. If the rear axles are CV joint type with a small differential, suspect a loose/worn wheel bearing/hub assembly

Ive got this bad grinding problem comming from my front driver side, it kinda sounds like my breaks are metal 2 metal but they ain't I wanna know what the grinding is we can't seem 2 find them...


If not the brakes, it could be a ruined wheel bearing. To check, raise the wheel just off the ground with your jack, parking brake on. Grab the tire, try to move it back and forth, just feel for play right at the wheel. The tire should have no play in it, except for a very small amount, only a fraction of an inch. If you feel significant movement shaking it, or moving it, its probably a bearing. You'd better replace it before it gets worse. It is bad on the tire, too-it will wear uneven. After the work is done, you will need an alignment for your car.

The chain on the MX500 dirt bike is slipping over the sproket on the back wheel. I've read the posts where the sproket turns but the wheel does not, that is not my issue. I'm thinking I just need to...


Is there a chain adjustment on this bike? It must be very loose to slip over the sprocket. See if there are two bolts that act as jacks to move the rear wheel back away from the drive sprocket. Loosen the locking nuts on each bolt, and tighten both equally until there is only 1/2 inch of play in the middle of the chain, then repost.

as long as your rear wheel is aligned correctly already, just take your axle bolt loose a couple turns and adjust the adjusters on the rear of the swing arm. move each ajduster on each side the exact same amount.

Can you tell me how to change the chain and sproket on a '07 Honda Shadow VLX 600cc???


I don't have any experiance with your particular bike but have changed them on many different bikes to date. You should first purchase a new chain and sprokets and compare them to the existing one prior to removal as you won't be able to refit the old one safely. You are checking for the correct amount of teeth on the sprockets and the amount of links in the chain.

Once satisfied that you have the corrrect parts. Remove the front sprocket cover and locate the front sprocket. Most large bikes will have a large nut holding it on. Smaller bikes will use a tab washer and or circlip. If you have a large nut i find the easiest way to loosen it is to put a lock or similar through the rear wheel to immobilise it and then with a breaker bar loosen the nut. Once free change the sprocket over, then move to the rear sprocket loosing each nut in turn but making sure you are appling pressure to the nut squarely as it is easy to cross-thread these smaller nuts. This is best achevied by leaving the wheel on the bike until all the nuts are free. Remove the wheel and change the rear sprocket. Once done you are now ready to remove the chain from the swing arm. You can either cut it off with an angle grinder or you a chain link tool as i do.

Now the chain is split. Connect the new chain to one end and feed it through. Detach the new from the old and then rivet both ends together using a chain tool as described in the tools specific instructions.

I have a pougeot 206 gti and it is knocking at rear on bumpy roads also found it to snake around fast bends, seams to be play on rear wheel


It could be wheel bearings, jack the rear wheel up and grab the top and bottom, wobble it, and if it wobbles alot, then the bearing has gone, or you may just need to grease them up.
It could also be susoension bushes( rubber or nylon inserts on the bolt points ) again, jack the rear up and look at the bolts that hold the suspension on and wobble the components to check if they move too easily( you will always have a small amount of freeplay ) REMEMBER TO USE AXLE STANDS AND CHOCK THE FRONT WHEELS WHEN WORKING UNDER A CAR, EVEN WHEN ON AXLE STANDS you don't want a tonne of steel pinning you down.

Cushion drives on rear sproketvibration on accelerating visible play on rear sproket bearings or cushion drives?


If the whole wheel has play,the bearings need replace,If it is just the sprocket the cushions need replaced.

bearing end play is .002''-.006'' this is done by inner spacer shims. sealed bearings can be installed instead of timkin and they are practicaly maintenance free
