SOURCE: 2008 Honda CB250 engine ticking when after it ran out of oil

new engines burn oil until the rings wear in, if you were riding it hard and never noticed oil gone , possible damage. i would top up oil and keep and eye. if its still under warranty i would suggest dealer look at it

Whine in 6th gear at 60mph which increase in pitch as speed rises

Yes I would be worried that a dealer would blame a gearbox ratio whine on the engine
What you could do is check the model forums to see if anyone else has the same problem also visit a couple of independent mechanics to ask them what they think
What sort of warranty do you have with that dealer as he may be trying to run the clock down on the terms covering the gearbox

Front Suspension noise

From your description,I suspect worn tie rod ends. The tie rods connect the steering gear to the wheels.grasp the tire rod while you or an asistant shakes the wheel from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock to pin point where it's loose. could be inner or outer ends or both.

It is the release bearing, you should get it replaced quickly otherwise it might damage the plate.

At highway speeds, however, the engine is noisy.

Very dificult to diagnose from your info. Could be numerous problems i.e drive belts, pulleys, alternator, power steerng pump, excessive valve clearance, gearbox whine or the most likely culprit, TYRE NOISE. I suggest take the vehicle to a respectable repair shop just for a diagnose. Get a second or third opinion, although it is no charge most of the time if it only requires a test drive (in South Africa) and take it from there!
