It depends on the quality of the weld. There is nothing wrong with welding a swingarm on an ST1100 as is shown here. Replacing a rear swingarm can be expensive.
If the weld is good, everything should be fine. If it's poor quality welding, a replacement swingarm would probably be needed.

I cut the lower shock support off my swing arm on the right side while trying to remove my lowering kit from swing arm. Do I weld a lower support for my shock back on or get a whole new swing arm?

get a whole new unit

it is illegal to weld , heat or in any way modify a suspension unit

as you are in the bike category, the assumption is that it is a bike and therefore anything but new would place your life and the life of your pillion passenger in danger

I replaced bearings on the swing arm after istalling it i have a gap on the left rear drivers side and a little gap on the passenger rear side

check that you installed the bearings /bushes in the swing arm correctly. check that they may be inserted from the inside to prevent metal to metal contact during operation of the arm with the mount

What is the proper way to use belt tensioner on a harley fxr

Not sure what you are asking but...

The belt tensioner gauge should be placed on the drive belt as close to its middle section as possible and pushed against the belt with a pressure of 10 pounds to see how far the belt deflects. You need to know the proper 10 lb pressure belt deflection for the particular year and model of bike. Once you know what the deflection should be if the belt is too tight loosen the axle cone nut and adjust the wheel forward to get the correct deflection and then tighten the cone nut to the correct torque for the model and year of the bike and retest the deflection to be sure it has remained the same throughout the cone nut tightening procedure. If the belt is too loose adjust the wheel more towards the rear of the bike and do as above for properly tightening the axle cone nut and recheck the deflection again as above. To maintain correct wheel alignment adjust each side of the wheel equally forward or backwards as the circumstances require. In case the alignment was not correct when you began OR to be certain that you adjusted each side equally measure the distance from the center of the swing arm attaching fasteners (or some other precise point on both sides of the swing arm - some swing arms have special measurement holes in the rear swing arm) to the middle of the axle. It should be the same measurement plus or minus 1/32nd of an inch maximum on each side. If it is not then you need to adjust one or both sides forward or backwards to get this measurement within the proper specs and then ensure that you have the correct belt deflection and if the belt deflection is then incorrect you need to go through the belt deflection adjustments procedures to get it within the correct specified 10 lb deflection amount while keeping the axle measurements equal within 1/32 inch from side to side.

I do not have the torque or deflection specs for a 1993 FXR at hand so if you do not have them you will need to get them somewhere else.

Have a 1985 Suzuki rm250. Cant get swing arm pivot bolt out. Wont budge a mm. Have a bolt on it still to have something to brace and hammer onto. What the heck do we do? Lol

Hi Ashley

There is no other way, but with gentle brut force. Remove the nut and lay the bike on its side with swing arm bolt thread exposed and facing up.

Use Q20 / WD40 or any type of aerosol anti seize releasing fluid by spraying it on to bolt thread and swing arm making sure to get the fluid to enter the bolt hole of the swing arm. You might have to do this for a couple of days to a week 5 - 10 times a day. Leave the bike lying on its side. To check, replace nut leaving 2 - 3mm gap before its against the swing arm and hammer it lightly without damaging the thread for movement. If no luck, you will have to drill 3 - 4 (3mm) holes in to the swing arm on the section where the bolt slides through to spray the fluid directly on to the bolt shaft. You can weld or plug the 3 or 4 holes after you have removed the seized bolt, but be careful not to obstruct the bolt hole. It takes some patience but you will get it out.

Swingarm pivot bolt

Must admit that as long as I have been involved in motorcycles which is 30 years plus, I have not heard of a swing arm pivot bolt snapping. Has it been weakened some how ? eg machined welded, heated the cooled quickly which would cause the steel to become harder but a brittle. Hope that helps

I have a ninja 250r and came of the other day. The black bit of the frame that holds the exhaust and passenger peg up snapped do u know what it is called and were I can get one

The part is welded to the swing arm. A new swing arm is $228. Take the bike to a local commercial welding shop and they can easily create a new mount then weld it in place.

Chain touching the swing arm

Hi ..... Welcome to the 'custom' world ! As you've discovered changing one thing leads to another. The chain angle has changed due to the shock length. You could try going to a breakers and buy another chain guide rubber ? More involved solutions could be to off set gear box sprocket, intermediate chain tensioner pully, go back to stansard shocks (which is main problem) and widen rear mudhuard/fender (which as you can weld isn't a big issue) or make up a 'tunnel' out of a round or square section of nylon and allow the chain to run through it. Let us know how you get on.
