Question about 2004 Suzuki GSX-R 600

1 Answer

I have a 04 gsxr600 and now it won't start. Dumb me I let the bike sit for winter and didn't disconnect the battery. Turn the key nothing lights start nothing so I pull the battery out charge it reads about 13.8 volts put it back in and lights turn on (a little dim), gauges on, fuel pump on (a little slow). Press to start clicking noise. Lights dim even more. Try again and continues clicking noise. Tried jumping full power lights and fuel pump. But still clicking or maybe arcing at or near battery. Checked all fuse they seem to be good. Any suggestions??

Sorry to say, your battery is dead. The reading you got was under no load conditions. Put a load of about 50 amps across it and the voltage will probably fall to just about nothing if even your lights are pulling it down to probably about 8 volts. Only one solution here - you have to replace the battery.

The gel filled will not spill and needs no maintenance, however, I think the amp/hour rating might be a bit lower but they so seem to last quite well. Compare the price and the amp/hour rating and see which suites you better. The higher the rating the more you can draw out of it.. If the battery is located near the engine or in a position where it is continually hot, the acid battery might be better because you can service it.

Siren works, but no power to instrument after recharging battery. Nothing changed on the bike, was just sitting all winter.

There should be a small fuse box near the battery with probably three fuses inside. Have you checked those?

New Battery in Bike, turn the key and nothing happens.

Get a test light probe so you can follow the power lead from the battery to the fuses. It will show you where power is getting to and where it isn't.

1999 800vs replaced battery when key is turned on to start bike all lights on speedometer light up should be just green neutral.bike just clicks will not turnover

Actually when the key is turned on all the "dash" lights come on neutral, oil, temp and what ever else as soon as the bike starts the lights will go out. If the lights come on while the engine is running then you have a problem or it's in neutral "green".

For the bike not starting a few things, first off the battery even though you say it's new may have been sitting on the shelf for a while and they do loose power so it may need charging. The newer bikes the headlight light comes on when the key is turned on which robs the starting system of power to turn the starter, the batteries need to be good on these bikes or it's just not going to work. If the headlight comes on and looks yellow or amber then there isn't enough power in the battery. If it's a nice bright white light then there is power and the starter may need to be serviced.

If the bike has been sitting over the winter I'd guess the battery has just lost power and requires charging.

Cheers be safe and have fun with your motorcycle

Sounds like a dead battery or a dead starter. Try using a jump box or jump start first.
